Good to hear, Monty. Yeah today they said that they were processing my shipment but didn't have a tracking number yet. I double checked that they were overnighting as they had said before and they said "no it's being processed as two day mail." Never ends. High class problems, but still annoying.
I feel for all of you but look at the bright side of this. In all my years in this business I don't ever remember a total recall with a brand spanking new replacement. This is actually history in the making. Even though the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing on shipping. We have to give them credit for a full replacement.
GMPhotography: Very true. (Providing they finally start shipping them out and providing the left hand doesn't decide to start repairing them instead of replacing them...)
I really don't think Sony would tell their customers they would replace their cameras for brand new ones and then change their mind when they get the cameras...They said it would take 7-10 business days to process them and overnight for delivery. The rep I spoke to told me it would be probably take less than 7-10 days but that was the official word.
We just need to be a little more patient. I am heading to Death Valley on Monday and surely will miss my RX1RII...
GOOD NEWS: Just received a call from a very nice Sony rep who told me that she was overnighting the replacement to me. She said I should have it tomorrow, possibly before the tracking number even registers in the system. Fingers crossed. Yes, Fred, that seems to be the case - especially since they received my camera 7 days ago. Enjoy Death Valley!
Just got off the phone with Sony. Again the same thing. They can not communicate with the warehouse in Palmer MA where the units are. He was confident that they would be replaced but has no Idea why it is taking them so long to process the orders. It does not give me much confidence. So you have our money and cameras and now you are also asking us to be patient. Seriously. Just be a company of your word and ship the replacements out like you told us you would. If not then at least give us the courtesy of updating the status in an email. Is that so much to ask?
I haven't sent mine in yet. I figured that there would be a huge influx of replacement requests immediately following the announcement, plus there are still supply issues within retailers. I'll wait for all of that to die down before I send mine over.
I just talked to Sony again. Yesterday, the rep told me my replacement was being processed and I would get a FedEx tracking number yesterday or today. The latest rep said that my consumption order had been placed (whatever that means) and that they would ship within 7 days by 2-day delivery. Of course, I was told overnight when this whole thing started. I asked her if I could speak to a supervisor and she basically said no. WTF?
I appreciate the fact that Sony is replacing the cameras, but the way that this is being handled is abysmal.

Actually I banned myself from buying Nikon ever again. They shut down all the mom and pop repair shops across the country and took it all back in house. In the process all these repair shops that relied heavy on Nikon repair work are suffering now. I'll never buy a Nikon again these folks have been my friends for 40 years and they did not deserve this.
No, I have used Nikon cameras for many years. They have built up a certain amount of trust and goodwill over that period of time. I've been fortunate enough to live in areas where there was located a Nikon service center or authorized service, I could walk in and deliver my broken (always my fault) camera to the desk and watch them put it into a plastic bag and its own tray. But those cameras were mechanical film cameras, and cameras were repaired, then, requiring many more fingers and eyes. Now cameras are electronic devices returned for a new or refurbished example. I'm sure it makes a lot more sense for the manufacturer- they don't have to repair to a deadline. They can just send the offending piece to a central service center, then sell as refurbished.
I do respect Sony for stepping up and addressing an issue that had not been recognized, yet.

It's pretty clear to me at this point that calling Sony is a waste of time and there's no one you can talk to who knows what's going on or can have any influence on when your replacement will be shipped.
It was shocking to me when I try to do a CLA and fixing for my Sony RX1, I was told there is no Sony factory service center in US but handled by Precisin camera and the Internet review from that company is horrible. This is one of the reasons I keep pushing my plan for going back to Sony.
Wow. I am just catching up. i sent mine in on Monday and being on the west coast, it is not destined to arrive until this coming Monday. I thought i would have it mid next week but not if the 7 to 10 day is correct. It seemed like they were doing so well with how this was being handled but now hearing all of this--- geez..
I was thinking about the March 2018 acceptance date and thought I should wait a year or so to return mine but saw Fred's comment about replacement vs repair. I also forgot to enclose my battery --- all other accessories were in the box i sent in. I wonder if they will send me a new battery? Not sure I want to read this thread until i get a tracking no..

Same here Mark. Sent mine last Monday and they will get it Monday.
I'm hoping to get it back by the end of next week. Fingers crossed.
This is weird. After reading both Mark's and Fred's comments above. I went back and checked on my tracking #, because I too live on the West coast, and was sure my label was 2-day express.
I was correct. They had given me an express mail label, and I shipped mine this last Monday (1/25), and have confirmation that it got delivered on Wednesday (1/27) @ 9:49AM.

Agee completely. Nikon is never ever going to get $1 from me.

Paul,
That shows they are not been consistent. Mine shipped ground. I decided to forget about it and wait until it arrives. Luckily I have a A7RII and a bunch of lenses to keep me calm.
