Sony will send you a brand new sony rx1r2 camera with Fedex overnight shipping. They told me that I need to send defective models with original accessories to them via Fedex Ground Pre paid shipping labeles. They also said okay if I lost original box of my sony rx1r2.

Mine is in the range too. I am not sure if you have to send in all the accessories or not. The lady who took my information said yes but I would get instructions on that and all I got was the label etc. So what do you need to send in--- battery, strap, instruction manuals ?

I was told to send the camera and all the accessories. If you don't still have all of the accessories, I would call back and ask what to do.

BTW: I just called 1-239-245-6360 and the Sony representative told me that my camera won't be repaired. Instead it will be replaced for a brand new one. I really wanted to get it fixed instead because the lens is perfectly centered but he said that won't be possible.

FYI: The FedEX return shipping label will be here today and once Sony gets my RX1RII, it will take 7 business days to get the new one.

Don't you get Fedex labels via email. I got my Fedex labels from Sony via email - Fedex Ground Shipping.

Mark,
I was told to only send the camera and all accessories (No original box). In a separate email I received these instructions:

____________________________

Please write the Event ID number and Return Order number on the outside of the box. This will expedite the receipt of the product when it arrives.
Also, make sure the following are inside the box that will be shipped to the exchange facility:

* The unit and all of the accessories that came with it
* A note with your name, address, daytime telephone and a brief description of the problem
* Remove all DVDs from your unit prior to shipping. We will not be able to return any DVD left in the unit.

Please note that your box and packaging will be recycled and will not be returned to you, DO NOT USE the original box and packaging.
____________________________

So, just send the camera and all accessories.
Important: Remember to remove the DVD from your camera!!!

I do find it odd they want the accessories. Maybe they are just sending a whole camera package back out. You would think just bubble wrap the camera well and ship. This is actually good though as your starting from scratch and you can resell as you normally would.

They are not repairing the camera, they are replacing it with a new unit.

I do have a question here though are they going through your dealer or directly to the buyer. Second question if you never filled out the warranty card to send in how would they know you as the buyer. Bottom line its up to the consumer to figure this all out.

yes I realize that but this adds costs to the replacement with all the accessories . But like I said this is good for the consumer as you have the proper box and paperwork for resale if you want to sell.

Fred, same here. I already sent the camera back yesterday, so too late to do anything about it. As instructed, I put everything in the retail box shipped it. I really want a retail box returned in the event I ever resell this camera.

So I called Sony, and the rep was bit confused as to why the email said to NOT include the original box. He assured me that a retail box and all accessories will be shipped back to me.

This makes a bit more sense, as the serial number of the enclosed camera is printed on the outside of the box. We shall see.

I suspect certain portions of these emails are boiler plate and are altered to fit the specific issue. This would also explain the DVD reference. Somebody didn't carefully read the text before hitting the "send" button.

I don't think the reps know too many details about it. They are just instructed to repeat the same information to all customers. From what I understood from my conversation on the phone, Sony will receive your camera/accessories. After they confirm your camera is within the affected serial number range, they will send you a "brand new" retail box RX1RII.

Also, I asked if the camera could be repaired instead of replaced and the rep told me that would not be possible.
Perhaps it's not an easy fix or a repair that can only be done in Japan and that's why Sony preferred replacing all the sold cameras as the best route.

I just got the shipping label from FedEx and the service to Sony is FedEx Ground.

Are your shipping labels Ground service, too?

The rep said it would be returned to me overnite but why slow service to them?

Besides from concerns about second hand value I see little reason for me to send the camera away for replacement. I canīt imagine the light leak I found being visible under any realistic condition.

I would be concerned that if it's poor adhesive on an internal light baffle it might get worse over time.

D@m it!!!

Sony got my camera on Monday. Since they said they would ship the replacement overnight, I assumed I would get it this week, but I just spoke to Sony and they said it would take 7-10 business days to process it. I'm leaving for Mexico next week and sent it in so I would get the replacement in time for my trip and now I won't have it. I would have waited if I knew. I can't believe they didn't tell me that processing would be 7-10 business days. I am p*ssed!!!
