If anything, APS-C cameras should be resurgent with better sensor technologies and better lenses released for them, so Nikon's omission of a mostly-pro DX body to follow the D300 and compete with the 7D (II) was a bit weird.
I saw a 200,00 shutter rating earlier today. I'm going to order one of these once they are out and the bugs are worked out. Then I'll pair it with my D750 and sell my 7100 and 7200. Can't wait.

I'm still shooting the D2x, D90 and D7000.... I have been waiting a while, wringing my hands and waiting for the D400.
This is one very welcomed surprise! I figured Nikon gave up on DX too. I have been pretty tempted to let go of my DX lenses, but I am happy I held on to them.
As long as the reviews are good I will most likely get one. This will fill a great spot in my kit along side my d800e. It sounds like a mini d5. d500 for wildlife, d800e for landscapes.
I am kind of curios about the 20mp sensor. I didn't expect the flagship DX to have lower then 24mp today, but I am more then happy to give up 4mp if it means better IQ especially at high ISO. I wonder if it shares sensor technology with the d5.
Holy smokes, what fantastic news this is. Though I should probably wait, I'll likely preorder tonight. This thing is a wildlife shooter's greatest dream come true. D5 AF, 10fps, Nikon IQ, UHS-II, auto AF fine tune, and 200 RAW buffer?!?! WOW this thing is a home run and will probably sell like crazy to pros and amateurs alike. REALLY glad I controlled my D4/D7200 urges, this along with my D810 will keep me happy for a while. D500+200-400 f4, 200-500 f5.6, or 300 f4 PF+TC will all be winning combos, especially for my shooting from a kayak. Score!!!

I read that it has the same sensor, "Speed-wise, the D500 can shoot at 10 frames per second using the same 153-point AF system as the D5, and the points fill the frame from side to side."
I'm on my retailers list. Can't wait to get back to a DX FL with high frame rate for ski racing and certain stadium shots. Some people feel it's better to shoot full frame and crop but when you shoot an event and have 1000+ photos, in camera cropping is a saviour.
If it turns out to be as good as it sounds I can see me dropping one of my pro bodies and having this as a backup/compliment. Time will tell.

I've been reading and re-reading the specs because I am still in disbelief. -4EV center point AF sensitivity?! 3-axis VR for 1080P filming?! The SB5000 can fire over 100 times at full output before needing cooldown?! My preorder has been submitted for the D500 from Adorama and the SB5000 might be next...
