p.5 #1 · Announced: RX1R II with 42MP sensor and EVF
I've been a happy RX1 user for a long time. I will become a happy RX1R II user some day. I've tried so many 35mm lenses... nothing beats the RX1 Sonnar. When my RX1 dies I may afford this new version. Gotta love Sony and their different FF efforts.

Vario optical low pass filter? It's almost like Sony had to add something new to make it "special"? Doesn't seem very useful, and likely not completely transparent in use. Sony seem more bent on pushing their technologies forward, than making a good solid camera for a reasonable price. Sony = electronics company

Well, that's one way of looking at it. Another way of looking at it is that photographers have been frustrated by the high res / moire tradeoff, and also the recent trend of offering two cameras that are identical except for the LPF. Even more so with the E/R version coming out after many have already bought the regular version.
So here's one camera that does both. How many photographers are going to switch modes a lot? Maybe very few. But, you no longer have to figure out before purchasing which version you want, and if you should wait for the potential no-LPF version, etc.

As I said many times I envy you hobbyist. You have to justify nothing and have this amazing freedom. Me i gotta think ROI making money, feeding the family and paying off huge amount of medical debt that I really need two lifetimes to accomplish that feat.
This sort of bugs me, pro vs hobbyist has nothing to do with this. It's simply about disposable income. Us 'hobbyists' have the same responsibilities in life in regards to saving money and raising family's. Nothing's stopping you from buying this as a luxury item that has nothing to do with your business.
Anyway, I'm hoping the AF feels faster than just the stated 30% increase over the RX1.

I think the "strong" setting gives an even more effective filter than traditional AA filters. With the 5DS, you can still get moire, the filter is only 75% effective and gives moire in the same places as the 5DS R, it is just subdued. Having the option of a strong filter that really eliminates aliasing is a bonus.

You guys have real jobs outside photography . Totally disagree with you. Have no idea, I have to invest thousands of dollars to run a business . You walk into a job and get paid no investment output. Walk in my shoes my friend. These are investments to earn money. Most people never have to do that

Guy, you could always trade your FE 35/1.4 for the new RX1R II.

What am I missing? What does this lack compared to an A7r II (other than interchangeable lenses, of course)? Seems to me it has pretty much everything, plus a lens, for only $100 more. Why are people saying this is way overpriced?
My thoughts exactly. This is a miniaturized A7RII (not easy to do in and of itself) + a free lens.

My family runs a business too. One of the businesses involves purchasing European luxury cars and modifying them with aftermarket parts. We also have multiple supercars in our showroom. That doesn't stop me from buying other expensive cars for my personal use. And I feed my family.

You're making a lot of assumptions about other peoples income and the sacrifices they make for that income. Lots of people own their own businesses, many with significantly higher overhead and entry costs than photography. I don't want to derail the thread, but you might want to stop feeling sorry for yourself over your chosen profession.

I feel you.. A lot of the time I can't seem to separate business purchases from personal purchases. IF I were running the business from a business perspective, I could get away with two DSLRs and 3-4 lenses. Or just two bodies and two zooms if I really had to stretch the business budget. You also have to consider at the end of the day, if you weren't a photographer, you'd probably spend your work salary on camera gear.
As for the camera. I can't bash it until I've used it. That's my rule.. But it's funny to see how people jump on specs and run with them. There's so much more to a camera then a 42mp sensor and a decent lens. BTW, the two have never been mated before. Who knows what kind of digital corrections Sony had to cook into the camera to make the lens compatible. Who knows how the AF will work. Who knows what the EVF will be like. How the new liquid filter will work. Battery life... Lots of things in my head I see wrong with this camera. Just like with the Q. But after reviewing the Q, I loved it. So I'll consider giving the RX1RII a shot. Even though I disliked my experience with the A7RII (not my worst purchase, but one I knew I shouldn't have made, but curiosity got the better of me).
BTW, the price point is spot on. You get a free lens out of it. And considering the 35mm offerings from Sony. A free lens that performs as the old Rx1 lens did, would be welcome.
One thing I will note, a LOT of people said that the experience with the Rx1 was great, but the Rx1r lost the magic. I don't know if this will ring true for the Rx1RII or not. But food for thought.
