Yea as a Pro it's kind of hard to justify without interchangeable lenses and becomes a one horse pony. Not saying I don't want , I do but I could buy a second A7rII for the same money. Now for travel and the hobbyist that wants small this is awesome. Like I said 2400 I could sneak that in the bag.
A7rII guts + a lens which many consider to be the best 35mm around can't cost less than A7rII. Yes it is a niche product because not many would like to pay so much amount for a fixed lens camera. But it wouldn't make any sense for it to cost less than A7rII. Don't take take me wrong I would love for it to be cheaper, but the argument that it should cost less than A7rII because it is fixed lens makes no sense in my opinion.

The RX1 had better corners than the Leica Q already. Now we have a 42MP back-illuminated sensor, perfectly matched to perhaps the best corrected 35mm lens ever made. There was little competition before. Now there is nothing that comes close in this focal range.

Personally I still prefer the leica Q which for me has better controls, a superb lens, the best EVF I have ever used (far prefer it to the A7rII) and files to die for. I don't need 42mp on this sort of camera 24 are enough. The only thing I would like from the new Sony would be a tilting screen. Of course this is just my opinion and it looks like an excellent camera even at its price point.

IBIS and the way larger EVF are pretty handy features to me.
Is this RX1 EVF really that much smaller? The spec shows .74x which is actually larger than the EVF in the A7r with regard to magnification so it may pretty decent.

This little lens–body combo has everything I have been asking for from Sony, including silent shutter. I will wait for the reviews to see how good the EVF implementation is; if the EVF shows framelines (or the crop) of the selected EFOV, I think they have hit a home run. It is expensive, but that lens is stellar, as others have mentioned.

The EVF/LCD on the original RX1 displayed the cropped image (i.e. the image filled the evf/lcd screen) so I imagine it would be the same.
p.4 #15 · Announced: RX1R II with 42MP sensor and EVF
Today is a rather expensive day. First comes Otus28. The only thing that stops me from getting it is that my projected bag is going to be hugely heavy, considering I will be carrying at all times Otus 28, Otus 55, ZF.2 135 + A7RII. For everyday, that is a lot. And I don't have a backup body. The RX-1RII kills those two birds. It is my light kit and my backup body. Oh, and when I say light, I mean it, as in "my wallet is a lot lighter this evening than this morning, before I decided I had to have these two minor pieces of kit".
OK, tomorrow is another day. But this baby looks sooo gooood...
p.4 #16 · Announced: RX1R II with 42MP sensor and EVF
Reading all the reactions and folks getting one than the price is just perfect it seems.
Im bummed but I just can't pull the trigger. As I said many times I envy you hobbyist. You have to justify nothing and have this amazing freedom. Me i gotta think ROI making money, feeding the family and paying off huge amount of medical debt that I really need two lifetimes to accomplish that feat.
