Why not pick up a gently used RX1 right now and live with it for a bit while you still have your 35/1.4
If you end up loving the RX1 experience sans a bit of extra resolution, EVF and faster AF, then sell the RX1, likely for what you paid for it, sell the 35/1.4, and go and get the new RX model
Likely could happen, but also likely is that you might find the camera just doesn't fit into your professional workflow, or at least, not a $3300 fit.
Maybe a $1300 RX1 can be easier to justify as a professional tool for the leaf shutter, fast flash sync etc. Certainly don't need to use it as often if its "Just" $1300 right ? lol
Likewise, maybe you will find it works well enough for those non-paid shooting needs such as some vacation snaps. Again, banging a $1300 camera around socially leads to be a little more carefree than when its $3300, at least for me....Show more →
I have friend thats going to loan me there RX1 when he gets his New one. This gets me some idea if it will work or not. That way I can give it a test run. Good news I'm not in a hurry on this, I got time.

My vacation camera which when I bring my system I wind up never even using it. No excuse camera
These two reasons alone are some of my favorite for the RX1 I own - it was my primarily camera on a recent trip and its deceptive size is a huge benefit. I was toying with a Leica Q to pair with my RX1 but after this announcement I may just stick with my GR and upgrade to the RX1rii (what a mouthful) once the initial sizzle period elapses.

Good plan, but since you use the A7Rii I predict you'll miss the eye AF on the RX1. Personally, I rented an RX1, loved it except for the clip on EVF which is why I didn't get version 1.0.

I've found the face detect AF to work well enough on my RX1. I do really apprecaite eye the eye detect AF on longer/faster glass, because the DoF can be so thin, but with a 32mm f2.0 I just don't find at typical shooting distances there to be any issues with things like just the tip of the nose in focus, but not the eyes and so forth.
I actually don't really use the eye AF on my A7rII either, except for with the 55/1.8 and 70-200, in which it is totally awesome. Wider though, such as with the 28/2 or 35/2.8 just normal face detect is spot on

It seems this thread is now populated by forum members who have already decided to purchase an RX1Rii and those who are trying to convince themselves not to purchase one.
I'm in the former camp and would like to get an L bracket. I'm wondering if any you original RX1(R) owners have any thoughts on the Really Right stuff L Bracket vs. the Milich grip and bracket. They both seem like they're well designed and well built and I'm not sure which way to go.
Given the zero response to my previous post detailing multiple instances of the sensor dust "issue" (including two graphic illustrations in the RX1(R) Image Thread), it seems this thread is also populated by members who cannot bring themselves to acknowledge that the problem might actually exist (albeit in relatively small numbers).
In any case, after a brief sojourn in the non-purchaser camp, I've decided to join you in the purchaser camp. The RX1RII will be released in Australia in December and I've asked my dealer to contact me as soon as it's possible to place a pre-order. I'll sell my FE 35/1.4 and (perhaps) my A7II to fund the purchase.

More likely it just means that none of us has personally encountered the problem. It's either a significant problem or not, but as no-one here has any more hard data than you no-one saw a reason to post on the subject.
But if you want to wring your hands about the camera needing service in the future, be aware that it has an internal rechargeable battery for the clock. At some point, that will die. (That's why I store the camera with its main battery inserted, fully charged.)

Great tip, thanks! I assume this applies to other models as well since the instructions for setting up a new Sony camera always specify charging the supplied battery in camera before use (and in doing so one is also charging the internal battery). I'd removed the batteries from a couple of bodies I intend to sell but I've now put them back in.

Judging from the images of the Fotga grip... yes, of course! I would start with that one and wish it had been available when I needed a grip. It is designed nearly exactly the same as the RRS and should work. Thank you millsart. Maybe there are other options out there as well?

No, it's fine to always use an external charger and swap batteries. The clock battery, which is a tiny little button cell, recharges itself from the main battery, not from the USB port.

Ah, OK, now I've got it. Best though, as you originally stated, to always keep a battery in the camera.

For me the Q becomes a bit more attractive with Sony pricing. At least some bite gets taken out of the price disparity since Leica includes a copy of LR 6.1. Then again there really isn't a lot of need to justify the price difference since NikCan has charged that disparity on a single lens with OSS. The Leica has IBIS and no pop up viewfinder or dust issues.
Still I'd much rather shoot at 35 than 28. I plan to rent and give both a try. It looks like the Q will be available in a few weeks.

So a camera that has only been in peoples hands, in small quantity, for a couple of months definitely has no dust issues, yet a camera that has been out since 2012, and owned by a far larger number of users, some of which subject the camera to pretty harsh environments, with a small minority having a dust "issue" (honestly first time I've ever heard about it and I spend about half my waking hours on camera forums lol) means that all RX1 have dust issues and your assured to have dust issues buying a new one within 24 hours of taking the camera out of the box ?
