Sony has announced its Cyber-shot RX1R II, an update to 2013's RX1 and RX1R full-frame, fixed-lens compact cameras. The RX1R II brings a 42.4 Megapixel BSI-CMOS sensor borrowed from the a7R II, 35mm F2 Zeiss Sonnar T lens, retractable viewfinder, variable low-pass filter and greatly improved autofocus. The first variable optical low-pass filter system that can adjust voltage on a liquid crystal layer to adjust the light-splitting properties of the array. This feature allows users to prioritize detail, eliminate moire and aliasing, or strike a balance between the two.
The RX1R II borrows the same Hybrid AF system as the A7R II with 399 phase-detect AF points with 45% coverage along with 25 CDAF points. Sony claims a 30% improvement over the RX1R's autofocus speed. AF tracking has been improved with up to 5 fps continuous shooting. Eye-AF and lock-on AF are also included. As on the original RX1 models, a macro switch ring offers quick access to a close focusing mode that can be used with subjects as close as 14cm. Like the A7RII and A7SII, the RX1R II will also offer uncompressed 14-bit Raw capture.
Basically you are getting a light/compact A7RII with a very high quality fixed 35/2 lens without 4k or IBIS.
Pre-orders will be available on November 5th. I will update this thread with the links. The price is $3,299.00

World's first2 optical variable low-pass filter
Control LPF effect to achieve your intention in a shot
You can choose from three optical variable low-pass filter effect settings1: Off (to prioritize image resolution), Hi (to reduce moiré and color artifacts), and Standard (to balance those priorities). Each in its own way takes optimal advantage of the image sensor's 42.4-megapixel8 resolution to deliver the ultimate image quality according to shooting intention and situation.

Looks like they replaced the popup flash with the EVF. Ok by me, since they kept the hot shoe.
AF looks like it covers the whole sensor, wonderful. [edit--sorry, confused by the graphic, looks like the PDAF points are the same as the A7R2, no surprise there but with a fixed lens they might've been able to improve on that)]
I'd prefer a different lens, but I know I'm in the minority there!

Yea I just can't get to that number selling the 35 1.4 plus 2k. If it was one thousand I could pull it off . I'm sure I'm not alone here either. It should not be 100 more than a A7rII either. I can see folks buying it at that price for sure as it really is very nice. Guess we have to wait for major price reductions. Crap I want it too

The stick on EVF solution kept me from even considering the original RX1, but having tried, and liked the pop-up EVF in the RX100 IV I'm now stuck with really wanting something I cant afford. Well done Sony
