Biggest benefit goes to Canon guys. They get to use Canon body. Plus Sony body. Plus Canon lenses. Plus Sony-zeiss lenses.
And when Canon launches an EF mirrorless body, they are set.

Exactly! I can get the Sony system with just the body. I have the 55 which is amazing but can use a 24-70 2.8 ii w 2 stops of is now.

The a7rII + Canon 135/2 L would be a killer combo! I love that lens! And I love that camera!
you are far better off with the Zeiss 135mm 1.8 and LAEA4 adapter. The only thing out there that surpasses this lens and only by a hair is the F2 APO. However, this only applies if you do not already own the Canon lens. no sense in spending the extra $$ if you already have a descent lens.
But you do get the expanded AF points Jorge and that's a big bonus. Your only getting that center cluster with a LA-e4. I know it's the same with the Minolta 200 2.8 I own. Why I'm looking at Canons 200. I would like the expanded AF points
You will get an upgraded, SSM II version of Sony 135/1.8 very soon. Hopefully it will be smaller also.
And if we are lucky, 135 FE.
Won't be interested in 135/2.8 though.
So it's better to wait a bit till Sony comes up with details of those promised lenses.
Otoh, my dilemma is now 55/1.8 vs 40/2.8+50 stm...the later will be damn cheap compared to fe.

Sounds like we need a whole new lens testing now. I agree this is huge, I had a feeling this was going to come and now will see a lot of Canon shooters jumping off the fence. Good for Sony, good for Metabones and more important great for end users.
Yes, good news. My important lenses (2.8/200L, 4/300IS, 2.8/100L, potential 100-400 II) were not working previously or only with limitations. I now have some hope again that all of them might function well in the end. Good for Metabones and Sony indeed, they can sell a lot more cameras and adapters if you don't need the latest and often very expensive L glass to make things work (with the recent supported lens list, I gave up on the A7R2 ...).
Also, I hope that with the firmware upgrade the AF on long lenses like the 4/400DO works better (without requiring manual pre-focus), but maybe that is asking to much from the on-sensor PDAF system?

Disagree. I put my Minolta 100mm 2.0 for sale because LA-EA4 cripples A7R2 in my opinion. The otherwise excellent 399 Phase AF system of A7R2 goes to waste! The problem of course is not with excellent Minolta 100 2.0, it is with LA-EA4 which in addition to killing 1/2 stop of light, cripples the af system.

Thanks for the update on the 100L. I've been waiting on news for that specific lens before getting a Metabones (I have a Fotodiox). For 100L, is the lens stabilization or IBIS better since we have to choose between one or the other?

My 100-400L II now works at 400. As above my 135L and 100L work now. The IS works but if you turn it off, the IBIS will not work with any of my IS equipped lenses. Nice to have IBiS with the 135L and to have it focus.

I think this thread might be about to become a lot simpler, because at this point in time, nobody has managed to find a Canon lens that doesn't work well with the RII with Mb 0.43?

How well does the 100-400 II work at 400? Is it as fast as on a Canon DSLR? Not trying to be argumentative, but I've got a 5D3 and a few Canon zooms, including a 100-400 II, and I'm considering picking up an A7RII.

No, not near as fast as the 5DIII. It works now but it wouldn't be for action at all.

Fred should also include some kind of tangible data point for focus speed. Or, the users can chime in.
As fast as 5D2, 5D3? In single focus? AFC?
It will be great to know what i can use them for and what to expect...

Great to hear that the 100-400II and 100L are working now, and a 2.8/200L with IS sounds great as well. Now if someone can test the 4/300 IS with the latest firmware ...
But I'm puzzled by what you say about the IS: does IBIS only work when IS is turned ON? The opposite would sound more likely to me (i.e. either IS or IBIS active, but not both).

70-200 F4 IS now works at 200mm but my old 85mm 1.2 Mk1 is now borked - really random results and barely ever focuses at F1.2. At F5.6 or above, it will focus but the focal point is always above the centre despite having it set to small spot and dead in the middle.
100mm L Mk 2 Macro now works though is slow to focus from distance to close.
