Thanks. The only thing affecting my use of the lens is my lack in proficiency in using the camera. As a Canon shooter, I am still too unfamiliar with all the controls and settings on the D5200. I only bought this refurbished one from Henry's just to give me an idea of how the IQ compares to the Canon 100-400 II, with and without a TC on the Canon.
I missed quite a few shots yesterday, due to out-of-focus, but don't know if that was my fault or the gear. Harsh lighting and specular highlights on the water could have been a factor.
My early impressions are that the IQ is quite similar, but I find the Canon focuses faster and more accurately. Of course that is probably due to the 7D2 focusing ability compared to the D5200. If and when my D500 arrives, I would expect better performance and results from the 200-500.

Tony great shots. Nice and sharp. This 200-500 is looking good to me for my next lens.
Regarding the 5200 and 7dII. I would expect the 7DII to have better autofocus. I had the 7D and the 5200. My 5200 did much better then the old 7D. I had 2 copies of the old 7D and hated that camera.
I been out the the camera hobby for a couple of years. Looking to get back were I was. I will be watching the 200-500 and the Sigma 150-600 very close. Looking more at the DX bodies with this lens.

I almost missed this one taken with the 200-500 as it's very high ISO (4500), so I put it in the "should I discard it" pile... After review, I decided to keep it and post it here as an example of low light focusing and VR. The D750 managed the rest...

I would like to thank everyone that has commented and those who have posted pictures with their 200-500mm lens. I just received my lens Friday evening and just had a chance to give it a spin.
I have always been a Prime Lens shooter for wildlife except a short stint with the 200-400mm f/4, so I was concerned by adding a zoom again to my inventory. Well with the short period of time that I have used it, I am more than happy with the results and would recommend it to anyone. I have a couple of adjustments to make and it will be good to go.
Here is a couple of pictures taken with a D3s, a great camera, just a little pixel starved.

Went out to the track last weekend and tried out the 200-500. Usually run the 300 2.8, but thought I would test this one out just to see what it could do.
Was quite impressed. Focus is fast and accurate. IQ is very good. Bokeh is quite nice.
It's now one of my favorite lenses

Do you think TCII works better than the TCIII for this lens...??
Also did you apply any sharpening tool on the subject and blur tool on the background..??

Purchased this lens because of this thread. I think the overall weight is nice, not too heavy at all. Only thing I don't like is how much you have to turn the barrel to get from 200 to 500mm. Its longer than it should be IMHO.
Image is solid from the lens. Really shocked to be honest. I paired it with a D750.
