Well, as you said, you seem to have a very sharp copy. But, take a look back through the thread a few pages and you'll see a lot of un-sharp photos. Most of these are at longish distances. Now sure, that could be from any number of things. Also, I wonder if folks are leaving VR on at high shutter speeds because that definitely causes some softness, at least on my copy.
Once again, nice shots.

Hi Jim
Thx a lot for your kind words. I hear you and I also see quite some blurry results, but I can not justify why. That can result from different things: lens softness, handling, aperture, shutter speed, etc..
One thing regarding the VR causing softness: I hear that everywhere and probably it is, but I NEVER disable VR on my lens regardless the shutter speed. I even have VR on when using the lens on a gimbal on the tripod.
Below some examples with high shutter speed and VR on:
1. Eagle, D500, 200-500/f6.6, 320mm (480 equiv.), f5.6, 1/3200, ISO 2000, manual
2. Harris' Hawk, D500, 200-500/f6.6, 500mm (750 equiv.), f5.6, 1/3200, ISO 2000, manual
3. Snow Owl, D500, 200-500/f6.6, 340mm (510 equiv.), f5.6, 1/4200, ISO 1200, manual
