In May/June I spent two weeks together with my family in Namibia. It was my first trip to Namibia but for sure not my last one.

I took two D800E bodies and three lenses to Namibia, the Zeiss 21mm, the Otus 55mm and the Zeiss 135mm.
Normally I shoot most of my images with my Zeiss wide angle lens. But Namibia was different. During the two weeks in Namibia I shot about 4000 images. After sorting and processing these images I kept 630 (the rest was deleted). Out of these 630 images 300 were shot with the 55mm lens, 300 with the 135mm lens and 30 with the 21mm lens. Namibia is clearly not a wide angle location for me.

To get some good landscape images of Namibia the most important thing is to be at the right place at the right time. You really need good light to get good images and especially nice colors. And good light is restricted to about one hour before sunrise/sunset until one hour after sunrise/sunset. This means you need really good planning and you often have to return to interesting places at sunrise/sunset. Therefore spending several days in an interesting area is definitely a good idea and in my opinion necessary for good images.
Namibia has also one of the clearest night skies in the world with nearly no light pollution. Therefore shooting at night is a good addition to shooting at sunrise and sunset.

Really excellent images Boris! For the things that normally catch my eye while shooting, the sand dunes like in #9 and 11 and the Deadvlei series really pulled me in. The seals are cool too - the tones and ominous sky very effective. I also love the minimalism of #35 (the first of the bird series). The landscape looks to be very ruggedly beautiful. Of course I think everyone has seen aspects of Deadvlei already, so it's great to see other parts of the country.

Great to see you were happy with a relatively minimalist set of lenses. I think for such a trip I would be so tempted to bring everything, just in case! Which of course results in many other possible problems.

I have some questions, but will read your blog first to see if you cover those topics there.

Great images and I appreciate you sharing them!

Namibia has been high on my list of target destinations and your work further confirms the potential of the place.

If I may add one comment though, I believe that you need to do a bit more editing since I feel that some of the images are a bit too similar to each other.

Great images as always. I really enjoy the series. my favorite are 17, 25, 26, 27, 40.

Please don't mind me to ask do you feel the need of zoom lens sometimes? as I feel some of above image might benefit of zoom lens to give a little freedom of composing.

Also I feel 21to 55 are too big hole for trip like this.

I own 135 and 55 myself now, and believe these two are really the best lens I have ever used or ever build by any brand. but what I feel many time 5% better composed images are more important than 5% of technical improvement most of time. (5% is just a example number, it is really hard to quantify ) As I feel it is really pretty good for modern zoom lens shooting at f8 or below.

Again, please don't mind my comments as I really enjoy the whole series. thanks for sharing.
