Why will the grip be secure for the camera on tripod? I am thinking of by a grip for my 5ds, when it arives.

The grip secures to the bottom of the camera.. just like on the 5D3 or other models. Canon improved the tripod mount on the 5DS and the grip secures well. When it's on the tripod... no issues...
Bill Claff has posted his Photographic Dynamic Range (PDR) results for the 5DR. At base ISO it's nearly a full stop better than the 5DM3. FYI, PDR is like DxO's DR test except Bill uses a higher signal-to-noise ratio cutoff, meaning it discounts the very deepest of shadows, which Bill believes aren't useful for typical photograph use because the signal-to-noise ratio is too low.
Photography Life posted some initial images but is experiencing poor edge performance with their well-centered 24-70 f/2.8 II lens. He's attributing it to perhaps field curvature and says the corners sharpen up at f/11 and smaller, which is smaller than most would prefer to use on the 5DS unless they need the DOF. Canon someone with a 5DS/R and 24-70 f/2.8 II confirm this on their setup?
I mentioned this on my HDR and UWA post. But I have seen the effect since 1DS3, and with other lenses like the Ziess15 f2.8, 17TSE and 11-24. It just gets more noticeable at higher resolution.
My working theory is that because UWA has such deep dof, very sharp lenses can be less critically focused and it does not show in the sweet part of the image circle. We expect corners to be softer, but the left and right edges are in the less sharp part of the image circle and show misfocus more readily.
Fred pointed out several months ago that a 17TSE needed to be focused off center and shot at f11. I started doing that on the 5D3 and it made a difference. I showed examples of this on my post. Focusing at the edge makes a big difference on edge sharpness and has little if any effect on near/far at f11. Have not tried this with the 24-70.
There is also a theory that the high angle of wide lenses entering smaller photosites may produce an edge effect. I leave that to theorists.
I contacted Xrite about the Passport Checker memory problem and they advised that we shoot the passport image with the 5DS in the smode as a work around until they get the problem fixed.

Haven't tried this yet - will be doing it this weekend. Does shooting wider and cropping the image and then saving as DNG help with the memory problem.
Ordinarly I carry two bodies fitted with different lenses and usually shoot with both bodies. With the 5Ds, my 5DIII is serving as a lens cap.
i think i need a second 5Ds or 5DsR
Me, too... I'm hoping that a lot of the noobs will sell theirs after seeing the disappointing DxO scores, so I can pick up a second-hand copy for cheap!
