Great shots Herb, I especially like the last one. I have looked for these in Sacramento but yet to see them. Any idea on what looks like small holes in their feathers?

Thanks a lot Carolyn. The holes are created by parasites like lice, mites and blowflies. The martins line their nest bowls with fresh green leaves that, as they decay, release hydrocyanic acid (cyanide gas), a fumigant somewhat toxic to their nest-dwelling parasites.
