All shots are from my first or second level deck. The first two are from the lower deck. This cub had a taste for some of my suet, some of which may have fell to the ground for him to taste. So, he thought he might climb up the tree and chew off the three inch thick branch that held the feeder. The branch is a horizontal perch and has appeared in many of my woodpecker shots. I'd rather not lose it to a hungry bear cub. After chasing the cub away, I removed the suet feeder and brought it inside. Fifteen minutes later, I found him in the tree chewing on the branch again, in the same spot as where he'd started, even though there was no suet feeder there anymore. I chased him away once again with loud clapping and yelling. I noticed a square white patch on his chest. He's about 2 yrs old. I remember photographing a tiny cub in my front yard two years ago with a white patch on it's chest. The last shot is that cub. It had two FWS ear tags, back then so it would have had to remove both ear tags for it to be the same animal two years later.
Superb shots Herb, what an experience. I have them come in the middle of the night to my suet feeder I had to wrap the pole in metal to keep them from climbing it.
So awesome Herb to have them to photograph in your garden
That would be so cool if that is the same bear grown up.
Last one is too cute!
Have a great weekend!
