Well, I tried 2-3 dabs of liquid silicone on the hood and screwed it in. I heard it lock but I am unable to unscrew the lens hood. I applied quite a bit of pressure on the counterclockwise twist to unscrew but the hood would not budge. Notice that the two white hash marks do not line up when it is "locked" in place. Is this non-alignment of the white marks what others experience when it is locked? Or is this normal?
mine locks into place. you can feel and hear it snap into place when it does. I dont understand why you used silicone to attach your hood. did you put it on crooked and force it into place that way.

Well at least two of us have had problems with the hood not locking easily in place so moral of the story check your hood on this lens to make sure it locks and if you get one like I had it may be best to exchange for one that works. The replacement hood works perfectly and snaps easily into place.
Love this lens. Well I kind of loved the 100-400ii with 1.4x a little better (focus felt a little snappier) but for twice the price of the 150-600mm I will stick with the Sigma for a while. Very please with the shapeness and it will be a great compliment to my 600mmii.
do you have the Dock to turn on the faster focus. If you set the lens with the dock to the fastest focus speed it is faster then what it comes set as standard
To me it looks like it's not locked, the alignment mark has to be lined up. So my guess is you have put the hood on crooked that why you have such difficulties getting it disconnected. I have once tried the same and it wasn't easy to fix it.

Yep. I still think the canon has the edge, but perfectly happy with the sigma for the price.
That is why I bought the Sigma...but one day the canon price will drop to the 1400-1500 range and I will think about it. Already used you can get in the 1800-1900 range. Then again I may be so attached to the Sigma that I can't bear to part with it, if only I had a magic ball to tell me...

I had a really scary experience after I tightened the hood more and it locked in place. In fact, it locked so tight that I had a very difficult time trying to unscrew and remove the hood to no avail. I didn't want to try loosen it with too much force lest I damage the flimsy looking plastic hood. So the next thing I did was to use a hair dryer and gently heat around the edge of the hood (around the lens end where it got stuck) and thankfully, the outer plastic hood material expanded enough for me to unscrew the hood, but with some effort.
Bottom line, I don't think I'll return the hood for a replacement unless B&H provides free shipping. I'll just live with it and screw on the hood just enough to hold it in place.

People, I'm new on this forum, and also on this Topic. I been shooting with Canon, different bodies and lenses, but now for a while I use a 7D with a 400 f5.6L.
But I'm really eager to improve, and I feel that I need the 200 extra MM and the ability to reduce the MM when needed. Today I see that almost all my pictures have some crop applied to them, even to help the composition.
That is why I entered this post (Also because I cannot afford the Canon 200-400 with the TC included).
Of course coming from the 400 f5.6L, my concerns are about the sharpness, the focus speed and the weight. But you cannot have everything without paying a price.
So I'm ready to try one of this 150-600 lenses. I read all the posts here, and I like the Sigma C more than the Tamron, but I believe I could be happy with any of them.
Well, here come the question... as I see that a lot of you have had experience with the 400 f5.6L; you feel it is better to hunt your wildlife pictures with the 150-600? Please tell me that you are not missing the light, fast and sharp 400 and I happily buy the Sigma C.

Thanks for your quick answer! I already been looking at the 100-400 mark II, but decided against it for many reasons. The most important one is that my wife wants it (to change her 300 f4L IS + 1.4 II) and it does not make sense to have two of them!
Also, when you talked about weight, the 100-400 II with the TC is about 1895 against 1930 for the Sigma C, not much of an improvement if you want the 600 mm.
And the price, with the converter 2630 dolars against 1090 (all list prices in the US), imagine if you have to buy 2!
I'll probably buy the Sigma C (if I can get it here in Argentina at a reasonable price) without selling my 400, and see what happens after taken some pictures. By now, none of those options are available here, so I will have to wait a little.
When you want to use your pictures to publish in a book, or for a contest, composing the picture in the camera is the best way to go. And with the wildlife and a prime lens, sometimes is not possible.

I have had the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary for 10 months now (previously had the Canon 400 f5.6L) and it was a pleasure to use it. Sometimes feels heavy when walking a lot, the autofocus is not as fast and consistent as I would want, but helped me get good images.
I'm posting some of them taken with my old 7D so if someone come to this post could see that this is a very capable lens.
Some of the pictures were taken in very low light situation and with the help of an external flash.
