Whitemouth Falls is one of my favourite places to photograph. I have photographed this area numerous times but this was the first time with ice and snow. The last bit of winter still hanging on. Still without a camera and the possibility of aurora later in the night I decided to borrow a friend's 5DII and 17-40 lens to get some quality images. I got there just in time to capture a sunset. Though my main goal was to shoot aurora getting a nice sunset would be sufficient. Luckily, there was a brief moment of superb colour. Unfortunately the aurora was not happening but I did not leave empty handed.
Wow Scott, what an awesome image! That's too bad you didn't get an aurora, but I would say this one more than makes up for it. That ice contrasted with the colors of sunset really make for one sweet shot!
Hopefully you can get a new camera soon, but that's great that you could borrow a friends.

Thank you Jim. Even though our hopes of aurora shooting were shattered it was great to get out even if it was just for a sunset. I did take more photo I may share in the future.
Love it, Scott. I bet it felt good to get out shooting again. I checked out your blog post as well, and found it interesting how small this cascade seemed in the second image. Great job of making it prominent and beautiful in this particular shot. The colors are all very nice, and the blue and orange compliment each other well. The shutter speed is perfect with just enough detail in the rapids below. The bit of white rapids at the very bottom right serves to balance out the composition even further. Nice.
Awesome Scott! Your choice of shutter speed is spot on IMO. I must have missed all prior discussion about your lack of camera. What happened and why haven't you got a replacement yet? I've missed your work....

Thank you Gary. I had mentioned it in this post last year when my camera fell into the water. I was unable to revive it myself. Unfortunately, I am not like most here that can afford nice gear so I am in the processes of trying to sell some lenses so I can get a Sony A7r. I have a Canon 7D but I am moving away from Canon cameras.
