I'm thinking about buying the Elmarit-R 28mm/2.8 v2 for my sony A7II and from the photos I've seen it works great with the A7 and A7r but I'm wondering if anyone has photos of it on the A7II?
I know the FE 28mm will be coming out soon but what are the chances of that lens being better than the Elmarit if it isnt a Zeiss or G lens?
And Lastly, I've never paid so much for a used lens before so besides looking for Version 2 / E55, is there anything else I should pay attention to?
I was fortunate meet up with Philippe (Philber) yesterday and he let me try out his copy of this lens on my A7II. Here's a couple of test shots that make me want to hate him for teasing me with such a wonderful lens! I love this lens . . . first Leica I've ever tried and I can immediately see the attraction to all things Leica.
I just sold off my A7 to a friend, together with the FE55.
I do have a Leitaxed (Leica R to Sony FE) R28 E55 (v2) I might part with. Not sure just yet, might keep it for the next big thing. I have had it for so long I have trouble parting with it.
Hey Bob, nice shots! I can't publish here, because I only have a A7R. And not all Leica R are that nice (nor M for that matter), which explains why their prices vary so much.
Essentially it should be models 11259 or 11333 and have the built in hood.
Mike
I'm the guy with the early serial V2 as mentioned in the 1st thread.. s/n 3624929... Mine was Leitax converted to Nikon mount.. It is definitely a V2.. The V2 looks very different than the V1 and if you've ever felt both lenses the V2 noticeably heavier. If you get an early V2 like mine don't unscrew the shroud like someone suggested in one of those threads. The rear element WILL fall off eventually. How do I know? I did it and my rear element fell off.. luckily it was stored at the time and just dropped into the lens cap.
The other contradiction in that thread is Jako mentions he bought a V2 with the lower profile rear shroud.. but the picture he posts is of the fatter shroud like my early V2.. then later on he posts a lee filter mount on his lens but it seem to now magically have the lower profile shroud? confused... I'd love to buy the updated shroud from Leica but I don't have any connections =( not that it really matters anymore as I now have an A7R
To me this is one of the best lenses, period. I also have M Cron 28 and it's great,
but I prefer the 28 R v2. It might/will change when I finally get a camera which
will work with the M Cron, but right now I don't have any. I'm keeping it because
I still believe this camera will come sooner rather than later
BTW I also think that the 19mm R v2 has a lot of the same qualities...
I'm going for an amazing trip next week and I'm taking with me only my A7R + those two R lenses
+ RX1R.

Mike, only the Lee filter mount related post includes images of my purchased lens. The earlier image (with serial numbers) was internet sourced.
The Leica R 28mm f2.8 Elmarit V2 is a great and extremely sharp lens that I really like and enjoy using with my A7r. Mine was sent in for a CLA and I hope that I can recover the lens since I have been unable to reach the well known repair shop for Leica lens. I hope that nothing has happened to the owner and the lens is recovered shortly.
All reports we've seen so far suggest that there is no difference in sensor or optical stack of the A7II and so whatever you've seen of this [or any] lens on the A7 is how it will look on both. Excepting shutter speeds where IBIS would be helpful, of course.
Thanks for all the replies! I found an 11333 E55 in Mint condition with no signs of cosmetic or optical damage for $2500. Is this a good price on this lens?

Is there a reason to go with leitax over a Leica R to Sony FE adapter?
A lot of people like the Leitax. It definitely eliminates any adapter wobble. If you get a good adapter and leave it on the lens it may not matter though.
I usually look at SOLD listings in ebay to gauge prices but not many have gone recently. They have been at or above $2k though so that might be right for a mint copy.
got the lens yesterday but havent done much with it because of food poisoning. The box says 11333, the lens says e55, has lens hood attached, and the serial on the box matches the lens. I havent taken any pics outdoors but it seems to be pretty sharp compared to what im used to when testing lenses indoors. Great lens!
I did notice the slight in/out movement when focusing the lens and i have never seen that before with a prime, is there a name for this?

"external focusing lens"
Most of the lenses I've used do that. A lot of modern AF lenses don't, though.
