It's only $148 here in Canada - I am assuming you're in the USA, which makes it about $105 USD if you can order from up North
Thanks! I am in the middle of nowhere (Finland) Actually I just checked, Nikon tell their website that they use same collar ring (Official model: Nikon RT-1) with 70-200/4 VR and 300/4 PF. Here would be interesting options (from ~10$) What do You think?

I was going to buy the Vello for my 70-200mm F4 but then ran across a pretty good deal on the RT-1 here on FM (a good discount on new for LNIB but still more than double the price of the Vello). Handling it unattached to the lens I was unimpressed but it turns out that the tightening knob is a very precise cam action, and not a simple thread, so it is very quick to loosen, rotate the lens and re-tighten. I was pleasantly surprised - perhaps this accounts for the high msrp?
I do wish it had a built in A/S dovetail though - that along with its rigidity was a big appeal of the Kirk collar I had on my 300 F4 (non VR).
it would be nice to hear if anyone has had the opportunity to try the Vello, Kirk, RRS and Nikon versions side by side. I wonder if kirk will now make an adaptable version which will work on both lenses like the RT-1?
The first is the Vello, and in the description there is this statement: "SpecificationsLens Compatibility Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro lens, Nikon AF-S 70-200 f/4G ED VR Telephoto Zoom lens"
So I realize that a collar good for that Canon is good also for the Nikon 70-200 f4 and so on....for the new 300mm.
The second and the third are the same and they seems well built...for the price it is ok to give a chance...
Sometimes ago I buy another one from China with a normal screw to tighten, but it was a little worse.
2. Bought Vello synch cord and hotshoe from B and H last year. Quality is every bit as good as Nikon stuff.
3. When I see through to get my copy of this exciting 300 f4 VR PF, I will get the $50 Vello collar too. From here on out, in most cases, I refuse to waste my money on ridiculously priced Nikon accessories anymore. So far, I really like Vello.
Bought one of this for my second copy of the lens (I have the Nikon version for my 1st copy).
Impressed with the metal of the Chinese copy, seems very sturdy, especially for the cost:

No, it's not hunting on static birds (or just a little). It's not usable for BIF.
This was at the end of a rainy day when the sun came out.
