Yes, the close tests look good for the Samy and I will wait for more reviews to confirm this. I am interested how it compares to the best 135's right now, the ZA 135/1.8 and Zeiss ZE/ZF 135/2. They are better than the 135L too but of course cost a lot more. Looks like a lot of bang for the buck. Need to see more bokeh examples. My ZA135/1.8 has an excellent combination of smooth, softly drawn bokeh and sharpness. Also, I like it is 1.8 which can give even more separation and background blur potential.

If somebody wants buy one of these new Samyang 135/2 lenses (Nikon mount) for me I'd gladly test it and my 135/2 Zeiss on my A7R and D800

That would be a good comparison! Of course you might have to buy 4 Samy's to actually find a non-decentered one if it is like their 24/1.4 or 14.

How can you compare different subjects in the frame when they are not the same distance from the camera, ie. not in same plane?
Also this comparison is at far distance. How about at portrait distances?

Yeah it's not a "scientific" test but how about the first test (one with the "lens test" writing)? The Rokinon is clearly way better than the Canon, not only resolution wise. Although I am not sure if they used a good copy of the Canon.

I'm always interested in 3rd party brands if they have AF. I can't MF fast lenses handheld at large apertures efficiently anymore.

Cool, as long as someone else buys those four copies for me . . .

Are you aware of Nikon 135 f/2D DC? It's older but very sharp and has better bokeh than Canon 135L, just costs a bit more than 135L.

The Nikkor f/2 DC is super SLOW at focusing... ok for portraits, but not acceptable when shooting weddings, other events.

That's why noting beats 70-200VRII for weddings/events... unless Noink releases the 135mm f/2.0G with or without VR.

It's just as slow as every other prime that Nikon makes. Hell, it's faster than some, just depends on the body.

I am a Sony guy myself these days but formerly Canon and Nikon guy. Sony Zeiss 135/1.8 and Canon 135/2 are great lenses, both phenomenally sharp wide open. The thing with Canon is it also is one of the fastest focusing AF lenses in Canon lineup that is great for continuous AF. Sony Zeiss is old type of focusing which is nearly not as fast in AF as the Canon. Also used Canon 135L costs $750 and used Sony Zeiss 135 1.8 costs $1300 so the price difference is remarkable.

Nikkor 135mm/f1.8E PF VR, $1799.

That would sell rather well.

Seeing Samyang announce another potentially killer lens but without a ROM chip to allow AF confirmation I am puzzled by why they keep on doing this to their customers and why so many people on sites like this give them a pass for failing to add $1 ROM chips on $500 lenses when those cheap ROM chips would make the usability of their lenses so much better for the vast majority of those seeking to purchase their low cost high quality optics. ......... So this is all a long preamble to my saying Boo! To Samyang for again only

I agree, the lack of a chip on the Canon lens makes no sense, especially since putting one on the Nikon version shows the factory has the capability to do that.

I think Nikon allows focus confirmation with or without the chip. It's a feature of Nikon bodies. The focus chip is for auto exposure and electronic aperture control.

Pick one between "<1k" and "blows everything else away."

How about the middle ground of blowing everything else <1k away?
