After being up since 3 AM and already driving about 400 miles that day, I won the argument with common sense, and made a turn on Rt.64 towards Grand Canyon.
Did not regret my decision even a bit. Was there just in time for the golden hour.

I brought quite a few images, but really wanted to share this one first, as the contrast between cool snow and glowing red rock was shockingly beautiful.
That is well worth the drive, a wonderful scene indeed. I would suggest to tone down the reds just a bit, they seem blown just a little bit to me. Other than that, a sweet scene.

Maybe it is blown, and maybe I need to recalibrate my monitor. But right now it just expresses the visual shock I experienced when all of a sudden, by pure magic, the sandstone lit up.
