Believe it or not, it's that time of the year again…
Per FM tradition I'd like to start this thread to showcase everyone's best/favorite photograph of 2014!
Since it is hard to pick just one, and we have 4 weeks left until the end of the year, I figured let's post your best shot for the quarter each week, as follows:
1st week - January - March
2nd week - April - June
3rd week - July - September
4th week - October - December
If you have all 4 shots for the year already selected, you can post them all in one post anytime you wish! Just remember that this disqualifies you from posting again to this thread in case you'll get your best shot ever on the very last day of 2014
This gives everybody a chance to post 4 best shots no matter when they see this thread...
Even though Q4 was filled with Bald Eagle extravaganza, I find migrating/wintering shorebirds, here on the Jersey Shore, as much interesting to photograph, like this Dunlin:
(Edited) Here is my foursome quota for 2014. I have opted to keep it all to birds - mammals will have to wait for the bonus section (if there is one at all).
1st Qtr Tricolored Heron - from Fort De Soto in March
2nd Qtr - Osprey on Tennessee river
3rd Qtr - Crowned Crane near Lubumbashi, DRC
4th Qtr - Sandhill Crane at Hiawassee Wildlife Rufuge
Not a lot to pick from in Q1. Tons for the remainder of the year. I'll buck the bird trend and post a tree. I've heard Joyce Kilmer thinks they are special.
Thanks to Greg for starting this thread and I do like this quarterly theme....here is my first quarter favorite....I printed this 16x20 and someone actually bought it recently...my first photo I've ever sold.
Eric
Great shots so far everyone. I remember most of them from the beginning of the year and they are even better the second time around. My Jan-Mar Q1 shot was planned to be something like Eric and Harsha posted but we all know how that plan went
Anyways here is my favourite orangutan shot from Borneo last March.

Let's see it was below freezing and 50mph winds in NY....it was probably over 37C and 100 humidity in Borneo....talk about extremes.....that is a great photo Geoff...wish to heck it was mine! That would be printed big and I don't mean big, I mean BIGGGGGGGGGGG!

Thanks for getting the ball rolling, Greg; I have not posted in awhile (and I owe Thang and Tim Foltz a big thank you for some local advice but that will have to wait until the third week and third quarter). This thread and others (including the very sad passing of Paul) are a poignant reminder to live life to its fullest, and share those pleasures with friends. Best wishes to all.
