p.1 #1 · NCAA Basketball tips

I have an opportunity to shoot some top level NCAA basketball. Any tops or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm assuming that I will be regulated to certain spots on the end line. Also, my thoughts on equipment are a 70-200 and a 24-70.

So, let me know anything else, such as:

- any other shooting locations
- any other lenses
- what to look for in way of shots
- what do basketball people like the best / most appealing
- anything else you think I should know.

Thanks in advance for all suggestions and advice.

David: I'd recommend a 300 f/2.8 on your 5DIII for down court; 70-200 for near, and you can use the 24-70 as well, depending on how close to/far from the basket you end up sitting. As far as what to look for, find as many posts of basketball as you can find, look through the photos, see if any stand out to you also which ones might attract attention from other viewers.

Bring some kind of seat to support your back.

If your arena is on the dark side, you might want to try an 85 F/1.8. I use it a lot on F/2.

Prepare to be on your knees or sitting with you legs underneath your body. Not comfortable.

If you can get into the stands about level with the basket, try some shots. Don't forget the jube shots, coaches, fans/students, cheerleaders, band and dance team.

Also, try to get shots with the players faces and expressions. Where I shoot, photographers can sit on a stool up to 9 inches tall (if in the second row, first row you have to be seated on the floor)
