On Veteran’s Day, I went to see the eagles. I talked to some old friends and met some new friends, which is always fun. But overall, it was not a good day.
Parking was pretty full. That’s crazy. We were lucky to find a spot when someone was pulling out. Interestingly enough, it was not really packed with photographers so I don’t understand it. People ignored the handicapped parking signs and got ticketed. Another parked up on the curb and got a ticket. So fair warning if you park illegally, expect a ticket.
The difference I see from this year to previous years is that there was not lots of big lenses out but a lot of people walking around with pocket cameras. I didn’t understand why parking was so full but not all that many big lenses out but I think it’s the people walking around with iPhones and point and shoot cameras.
You can’t do anything about the weather. It was supposed to be partly cloudy. Instead it was foggy. Anyone who has been here knows the fog at dawn tends to burn off by mid-morning. Not today. It did leave about 1 – 1:30 PM leaving little time before losing the light.
Lots of fog with a long lens is not a good combination. As you all know, once you get out over 1,000 mm, the junk in the air just gets magnified making things worse . It can be bad on clear days. On foggy days it’s just ridiculous. I know you can make some adjustments in post but junk is junk and the longer you are, the more junk gets blown up. So not a good day. Enough in my soup.
Oh, and there was a lot trash floating down the river, lots of logs and junk. What’s with that?
Too many people, no place to park, few eagles, soupy skies, wasted hand warmers, poor me … So I got what I got.

This is to give some perspective of distance and soupy skies. Those are blurry pigeons in the background. Despite the distance, the lack of detail in the eagle is one reason I hate fog.
Hi BB, sorry to hear of the bad conditions. Hope it gets better soon. That was a holiday, so I think the day was busier than a usual week day. Nice eagles.
Yup, it is all about the light.
Hi, BB> Considering the lighting conditions you did very good on these. Fog sometimes can add mood to a shot like in your first shot, but they are all fine captures

Hey, Bee. Sorry about the conditions. But, you did come away with some great keepers. The last two, and the heron shots are my top picks. Don't think I'll be getting up there this year. Will keep my fingers crossed for next year.
