Had to run some errands in the La Jolla Village today, so took a few minutes to walk the Cove area. Took along the D810 and the Tamron 150-600. The Pelicans are in full breeding colors right now, so snapped a few shots of some of the fellas hanging out on the cliffs. Love these birds, hope you enjoy...
Thanks for all the kind words!
@m.sommers00.. I shoot in 1.2x mode mostly. Here is the APX focus distance according to exif and actual crop sizes before I re-sized to upload at 1600 px. The RT was trying to knock squirrels off of trees. It is super challenging when they fly so close in less than ideal light.. A few times I bet the hawk flew within 10 feet of me... The second one ISO 2800 and the last one is 3200..
1 About 20 feet 5141x3698
2 About 60 feet 5480x3370
3 About 20 feet 2705 x 2304
4 About 45 feet 3880 x 2958
Today, a different kind of bird. The Blue Angels are in their Winter home in El Centro, and practicing their show in prep for the season. So, our camera club went out and took some pictures. There are some large piles of Hay Bales right at the end of the runway where you can climb up and get real close. So close that hats were being blown off on low passes. Almost everyone on my bale pile was shooting the Tamron 150-600 yesterday. A number had rented one. This lens is getting a great reputation out here.
Anyway, here are some of my images from yesterday.
The Diamond takes off.
One of the two solo planes does a pass.
The Diamond dives with smoke on.
Rolling with a lucky passenger along for the ride.
Awesome shots here. Based on this thread, I bought this lens yesterday. I was having a hard time choosing between the Tamron, Sigma or the new 300/4 PF. I decided the zoom might come in handy and the Tammy is not only less expensive but lighter, so that tipped the scales for me. Nothing but backyard shots so far but I'm very impressed with the lens. Thanks everyone for sharing.
