That is not to far away. But I would wonder if. Photokina is running last day tomorrow. And this is the world photo exhibition. NYC is not a place to introduce something like this, imo.

The 1DX was announced Oct 2011 in New York.

Even if it's announced at the end of the year, it may take a while until we get a hold of one.
I remember the 1DX was announced in Oct. 2011 but the pre-orders started to ship July 2012!!

Any case? So if I take the A6000 and my 1DX to a dungeon gym and shoot high school basketball the A6000 will have better data?

I believe the original release date was March 2012. Just a bit late.

At least the pro's got them in time for the Olympics.

Please stop trolling. "Any cases" here means A6000 vs (7D, 70D, 5D3, 6D, 1DX) controlled lighting IQ test.

Not trolling, simply responding to your statement that DR is a critical element for IQ in "all" photographic applications.

I don't want to sound nit-picky, but it appears to me that the Sony is exposed higher than any of the comparison bodies. I'm basing this on the fact that not only are the shadows a bit brighter, but the highlights are also.

Actually, lower DR sensor did not record the full range data like the wider sensor at the same metering and it shown here.

But 2011 was not a Photokina year.

Look, we get what you're saying and don't necessarily disagree, but the comparison isn't a good one to isolate the variable in question.

John, beside our observation it might be hard to isolate these differences. A6000 might have cleaner files, less NR, better tone curves that has been measured by DXO in better color depth number. Better JPG engine? etc...Which reminds me some colors we have seen before in older A7R thread: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1247661/45#11930572

Does the A6000 do such heavy handed sharpening by default or was that added by IR?

Between this thread and the gnashing of teeth caused by the 7D II announcement, I'm reminded of the following…

+1, the more the better. A camera with higher dynamic range always has better images quality than the one with lower dynamic range. Here some IQ comparison samples using IR and DXO comparometers.

In this illustration, I am using the lowly Sony A6000 against all Canon latest crop and full frame 7D, 70D, 5D3, 6D, 1DX to prove DR is a critical element for IQ in all photographic application not just for landscape like some indicated in this forum. Just use your eyes to judge the quality of the crop samples for yourself

Thanks for putting other people test together for review, however did you compare your sony sensor and canon sensor in actual practice? I have my A7r and 1Dx shooting side by side in low ISO on tripod and native lens for over 6 months but I can never found the A7r have 2 stops better DR than the 1Dx or get A7r do better image than 1Dx. How can you get this 2 stops benefit in actual? Appreciate if you can teach me the technique. I don't want to see this kind of lab test or control test anymore because they never test in actual landscape, dawn, sunset etc that I always did. I also found my friend's A7s (which is much lower score than A7r in DXO) have better image quality than my A7r, just like a joke when you see this kind of test or paper game.
