So far I like the bokeh better than what I'm seeing from the ZM35/1.4. I'm not sure how it could be much better in general, other than being the RX1's Sonnar. Yeah, there's probably LOCA (seeing some green edges to background blur circles), but at least in the Map Camera samples (right click on images to see them at 3000 pixels wide) it doesn't seem to be terrible, nor is purple fringing, which only becomes really evident in the backlit tree branches and park bench photo, yet is pretty much absent in the locked bikes photo. There seems to be some SA at near distances, but don't really mind it. Wide open images feel smooth and maybe lacking a bit of bite (typical Voigtlander moderate contrast?), but OK with me...

The map camera examples didn't really pick a good background to see the bokeh, lots of foliage which a lot of lenses struggle with. Some crazy purple fringing even at really small web size on the backlit shot. Definitely a decent amount of LOCA.
Definitely interested but need to see more examples. If its f/1.7 I want it to be my do everything 35mm, from wide open walk around to stopped down landscape. Otherwise I'm going for a speciality f/1.4 to pair with my FE 2.8.

I agree, we need to see more, but it looks good enough to me that it's the 35 I will go with, instead of the ZM35/1.4. BTW, the ZM also has purple fringing and LOCA problems. Purple fringing is pretty typical of faster Voigtlander RF lenses, so I'm not surprised to see it, but it doesn't seem as bad as it could be. The one example where it's very obvious is very strongly backlit with very intense reflection off the benches. Few lenses would handle that gracefully and probably none I would want to use on a Leica.
I'm curious how it will fare on the a7 series. It seems the new 15/4.5 might be even slightly better on Sony than Leica, in respect to edge sharpness, which I was a bit disappointed to see, since I only use mine on Leica. It might explain why I don't see any significant sharpness improvement over the previous version. For selfish reasons, hopefully the 35/1.7 is a more equal performer on the two platforms.

Hey Ron. Actually the ZM is very well controlled wrt purple fringing and LOCA. It is far better than any of the fast CV lenses I have owned in the past....

And it does clean up very well with a few sliders in LR CC. I had the LTM Ultron 35 1.7 and loved it. And,it had very little problems in the corners on my reg A7. Never got the time before I sold it to try on my A7rM, though.
According to Abrahamsson, CV 35mm 1.7 M is better then 35m 1.4 Nokton, & ZM Distagon is marginally better then CV 1.7 on Leica M.
Ugh... If I'd only seen those images I would have quite some doubts about the lens. Many of those look like typical CV with a fair amount of purple fringing and LOCA... Also looks like sloppy technique in many, with marginal shutter speeds, even for 'only' a 12MP camera.
The 3000 pixel wide images from Map shot on the M240 IMO look a lot better. The one looking up a building with blue sky shot at f/2.8 looks pretty decent at the edges, compared to the a7S sample linked above.

Yes, the ZM is pretty good, but I recall some were surprised to see any in the first place. From the test shots I did, it seems to take at least a couple stops to resolve.
I don't expect the CV to better the ZM here, and will probably be somewhat faithful to past fast CV lenses in this respect. Also seems to have a fair amount of SA at near focus distances.
I don't understand why they are pricing the black and silver version the same, I thought the black was significantly less?
If it's any consolation, it appears that all sellers - Photovillage, B&H and Cameraqust (B&H does not show stock yet, the other two do) - are all pricing the chrome and black the same. The aluminum black version should be much cheaper as I previously mentioned based on Voigtlanders MSRP. Perhaps it will drop once excitement and early adopters drops off. The better deal (based on Voigtlanders MSRP and retained value) right now would seem to be the Chrome version.

I'm very interested in the performance of this lens, especially wide open and at f/2. I was not a fan of the Loxia 35/2, and the FE 35/1.4 is too big for my tastes, while the 35/2.8 is a bit too slow (but might be a good compromise). If this is good at f/1.7, it could be perfect. The image samples I've seen so far are hit and miss, but I'm really excited to see what some of you do with it. My FD 35/2 is fine, and really quite good stopped down, but I'd love some extra pop at wide apertures. I'd like to see the black version drop about $150 though. $979 is a bit steep.

Regarding performance, from what I've seen so far, the biggest question is how it will do on Sony. Results on Leica M digital have generally seemed good with aparently fairly flat plane of focus. If UPS comes through as they currently estimate, I should have mine sometime tomorrow.
As with Ryan, I did not buy from the Americas and was willing to risk the chance of getting a lemon and not have domestic warranty coverage. So far the Voigtlander lenses I've bought new have been trouble free, knock on wood. My CC is showing $630 US after conversion for the black version.

Jordan...I had the ltm version and it was very good WO and @f2. Loads of pop/separation. And it didn't smear the corners on my regular A7 at the time. In sure this one will be just as good(probably better!!)
Here is a pic WO on the A7 from last year...

If I didn't already have the ZM 35D I'd be all over this lens too!
