I'm not sure if I should have cleaned him off. On one side, it would make for a cleaner photo, but on the other side, with the specs on him it feels like it adds a touch of story to it, bursting out of the ground.

thanks Harold.. did a little more digging and it seems it's generally called a Skunk Cabbage around here.
That's in the Arum family. Our native wild Arum is plentiful in the wilder areas of our garden . It has (or would have) crowded red fruits which are poisonous. No worries, the deer eat the flowers before they seed seed.
I had quite an active garden this weekend. Now I am thinking of either (1) buying an outfit that will not scare insects or (2) find a 1:1 macro with 180+ mm focal length.

I'm npt keen on the second one but the others are excellent.
You should be posting them as topics on the main board, not in the new macro shooters' thread.
Harold
My bad - sorry Harold! I should have realised from the heading.
I am so used to contributing to the Nikon MF lens forum - it runs in a totally serial fashion.
Over to the main board then........
We are practically local given the global contributors to FM.

It wasn't a criticism. Some very good macro shooters seem shy of posting on the main board.
As for location, you may see some Hampshire mushrooms or Slime Mould images posted here.
