Went to another zoo to give the D810 another whirl. This time, I used my 300mm f2.8 VRII + 1.7x TCII instead of taking my 500mm f4 to see how the focus went with that combo. I must say that it works much better on the D810, more accurate and quicker.
Anyway, ehere are are few sample shots including some from the 70-200 f2.8 VRII.
This is probably the least excited I have been about getting a new camera. It sat in its box for almost a day before I pulled it out to use it, which is unheard of for me. Usually, I'm diving in with a slightly charged battery within moments of getting it.
The more I'm using it, the more excited I am getting though. This camera really is amazing. The AF, wow, the AF. No AF fine tune needed on any of my lenses so far. Need to test more, but was just out testing my 300mm with 2x that required +20 MA and it was bang on with my D810. Focus is fast and accurate. Shutter allows me to finally shoot hand held at much slower speeds than I was ever capable of with the D800. I was getting sharp shots last night with no VR at 1/25th second.
Here is one, shot jpeg.... edited slightly in lightroom.

I too am not very excited until I read posts like this. Glad the D810 is growing on you. My D4s also was the first body I've had in years that required no focus adjustment. However I will resist NAS, my D800e is still my Hi Res, I do not need one, I do not........ Great shot BTW, now stop sharing all the good news
that is exactly what it is, a tool. a well designed and darned good one too. the tool though, is currently keeping my mind off if the poison oak I inflicted upon myself a few days ago.
so far no dialing in required on the lenses I use on it.
raw pushed through PScc 2014 using the ACR 8.6 rc. no real work needed.
this was my 1st opportunity to use it since I got it a week ago
I feel the exact same way, except I love tools and have more than I need, however I gave up sportscars years ago. Maybe the poison oak would distract me...
