Some shot in Tokyo this Sunday with D810 and 300mm f2.8 VR1 (all shot at f2.8 and 1/500s). More after the link on my Flickr page
I have to say that I am extremely impressed by the AF of the D810 with such fast f2.8 primes. The success ratio is very high in pretty low light and quickly moving subjects.
Finally got my D810 out to the zoo. Some comments after 6 hours of shooting:
- The AF - wow, again. Just wow. My keeper rate was almost 100% from an "in focus" perspective. The speed, responsiveness, and accuracy are just on another level. I deleted so many pictures because they were exactly the same haha - no need to take multiple photos "just in case". The D810 just nails it time after time in any light.
- The metering, WB, and JPEG engine is incredible. I converted the NEF's to TIFF in NX-D and brought them into CS6, and on probably 95% of them, all I did was crop if needed and save as JPEG. I've never had to do so little to my photos in post.
- ISO performance is absolutely outstanding, even at 3200 in poor light there is virtually zero obtrusive noise. This we already knew though.
- I loved switching in a split second from FX to 1.2 crop. The ergonomics and responsiveness of the camera in general are just outstanding. I can easily still print a 25MP crop shot at 32X48" if wanted.
Here are some samples, many shot through thick, scratched, enclosure glass covered in fingerprints so not as sharp as they could be. All SOOC except for some crops, no NR, all handheld. 70-200VR II or 105 VR MACRO:

Bernard,
Nice captures! Nice colors and very sharp. I have a question for you. Did you send your camera in for the thermal fix or is this a newer camera that already had the fix when you purchased it? Or is this one of the first releases that needs the fix and you never sent it in?
