I would like to see the types of images that A7s owners are shooting it stands to reason they would be high ISO as this is the main benefit of this camera

Got out to take some tonight. In the spirit of high iso shots here you go:

All with A7s 55 F/1.8 wide open. No processing (other than what flickr does to them). Straight ARW to JPEG.

No problem Phil. Glad i could help. I literally just went out to take them real quick. Seems to hold up well. I just wonder how the A7r would do as well. More testing to come when life gives me some more extra time

Considered ditching my a6000 for the a7s. But then I realized I got the a6000 for its size, price point, and assortment of lenses, which makes the a7s pointless.

Dat IQ though..... and the low light performance......

JVill the a6000 is a great camera. Im actually thinking of picking it up as a compliment to the A7s.

"Stealing the bone". ISO 32,000, cropped a bit, shadows lifted in post, electronic shutter.

do i have to take it in raw? can i do it in jpeg for faster upload?

anyway, i turn off the light in the room. Total dark. turn iso up to around 4000 then i can see something. After that, each picture is one iso up. The last image iso is 256000. DL the file from the folder. File is not edit. Straight out from the card.

A7s + nikon 55mm f/1.2 ais lens.

is this kind of iso checking you guys wanted?

I understand your point of view but what about those who do not plan on owning multiple bodies? Same bodies different specs. Trying to only find A7r images or only A7 images is a pain when you throw them all together in a single thread.

Hi vipergts831,

+1...I have had no interest in an a7 or a7R since their release. However, the a7S does have some key features/abilities which are of interest to me from a nature photography/videography stand point, such as low light capabilities and video resolution (OT, I know)...

The thought of having to sift through an all-in-one thread where all three cameras competed for space and attention would be unmanageable from this forum user's perspective. Heck, even single-topic threads turn into nearly-unreadable multi-conversational piles after a few pages.

Bravo, for starting and keeping this thread alive! The more "topic-specific threads" the merrier, I say!

Personally, I'm glad to see a 7s dedicated image thread. I am interested in seeing what qualities 7s images have in both high and low iso. I am not willing to wade through a majority of a7 /r high res images.

Hi Snapsy,

I truly enjoy that second image...nice play of foreground visibility vs. starry sky...

It'll be interesting to see where a favorable balance of ISO, aperture and shutter speed will work in extreme-low-light situations. Learning the camera's sensor behaviors at various ISO settings will clearly take some in-the-field testing.

I bring this up because of your settings for that second image...15 sec @ 12,800 ISO (you don't state f/stop). Bumping up the ISO in an attempt to freeze the wave action we get...

8 sec @ 25,600
4 sec @ 51,200
2 sec @ 102,400
1 sec @ 204,800
.5 sec @ 409,600

...and, clearly, one would be pushing ISO to quite the extreme to try and do so.

Comparing your shoreline image settings (I'm assuming f/4) with the similar shoreline framing at 1/25 sec, ISO 40,000, f/1,4, in this video it's clear that your scene was at least 3-to-4-stops stops darker. (See video at 3:36 mark for how shots were done). Low light video test of a7S from Philip Bloom...

Now I See on Vimeo:

" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">

...looks like existing-light shoreline videography and image capture of seabirds and horseshoe crabs at night is finally within reach, given enough ambient light! Owls in darkened forest trees at 2 a.m. will be another matter!

Thanks for sharing those images!
