I wish they would just release the specs now and then introduce it to be seen in sept, the waiting is a pain, its a toss up between whatever they have on offer and a 1DIV for me, my 7D is almost dead now
I wish they would have announced it in July with a release in Sept as that would have been awesome for Fall sports shooters. Probably won't see it until late October or early November though.
I would be very surprised. That is only $50 more than the 7D's release in 2009. Between inflation and given Canon's history of pricing for the MKII of lenses, and where other bodies came in, I would expect a bit more than that. $200 more than the 7D's original list price might be more in line, so $1899 might be a more reasonable prediction, and possibly more than that depending on how revolutionary the MKII could be.
ggreene wroteThe rumor I saw was $2300. Which if the rumors are true and we get a mini-1DX is a dream price.
That could be the case, especially now that the APS-H line is discontinued, but boy, for that price, for me anyways, it would need the following to entice me:
- AF system from the 5D3/1DX
- The ISO performance of the 1D4 at the very minimum
- A slight resolution bump to around 21-22mpx
- Touch screen and articulation
Even with this, $2300 might be a bit tight, I would probably just go purchase a used 1D4. However at a price sub-$2K, I would have a hard time not considering it.
Also it is quite possible Canon watches the masses to see what they think would be a reasonable price, and they could very well use that as part of the decision of what the launch price is. So let's keep the rumored prices below $2K.

Other then articulation that all looks plausible. I'm not convinced an articulating screen can be made with 1D build weather resistance and durability.
I loved my 1D4 but the difference between 18MP (1DX) and 27MP (1D4) is not a big enough gap for reach. 47MP (7D) or 60MP (7D2 at 24MP) would be better.

Gregory, not kidding.
Only if it's a 1.6x 5D3 as you speculated. If it's a mini-1DX it will be $2300+.
In speaking to a Canon rep yesterday, he verified a couple things:
- It is coming
- It will NOT be in the 1d series form factor for build quality (as some have suggested)
- It will not have an articulating screen
- It will have a version of the 1Dx/5D3 AF, but will not be the same as the 1Dx
His hunches were that, while we night see a new sensor, "office rumors" were the same sensor as the 70d with better noise control, dual Digic, dual slots (possibly) and, as always, pop-up flash. He mentioned that he was not expecting an increase in the FPS due to the major agencies complaining about the time it takes to upload and transmit the files via Wi-Fi currently. He said this was a huge complaint from D800/e/810 users working in the reporting industry and something that Canon really took notice of.

I know you're just the messenger, so this not an attack on you, but that makes very little sense.
If Canon is keeping the FPS lower because it somehow makes it "better", than why would their top-of-the-line 1Dx have a high FPS? Does this mean that all sports cams will have low FPS from now on so they can transmit Wi-Fi files?
What is the trade off between frame rate an speed of WiFi file transmission? Certainly file size plays a role in both, but I don't understand the implication used here.
His implication was the more pics taken, the longer to upload. A lot of A and other reporters complained about the length of uploads and how it slowed down the reporting process.
Can't reporters just choose the slower frame rate or MRAW/SRAW/JPEG used in current Canon DSLRs?
It would be simple to have a high FPS cam with a couple of choices for slower frame rate.
Example:
Theoretical 7D mkII: standard high FPS = 10, middle FPS = 6, slow FPS = 3
