Rumors and retail searches strongly suggest that the EN-EL4a is discontinued by Nikon. This is really sad since I'm far from retiring my shiny D3X. I should have picked up several last spring when they were stocked at B&H. My current pair were just recharged and are aging out at Levels 3, 4. Not pleased if I'm stuck with those 3rd-party knockoffs that die after 3 months.

I have been using Wasaabi and Sterlingtek for years. I do not shoot enough in a week to test any battery's endurance. If I was getting paid to shoot 1000 pics a day I might consider the Nikons, but the price differential can be enormous on a fixed income. Food, rent, heat and lights. and car insurance plus gasoline prices are far more important than splurging on overpriced Nikon batteries that far exceed my needs.

Pulled a D700 out of the archive last week and took it with me. Lens is the 55mm f/1.2 Auto SC. Still using my plethora of EN-EL3e batteries
