p.5 #1 · Tamron 150-600 firmware update confirmed?

Mine came back with the same description: "AF repaired / Disassembled and cleaned."
I called and customer service went into their database and confirmed that the firmware had been updated.

What was the service turnaround for those of you sending it in? 1-2 weeks?

It's been stated by myself and others that your lens will spend 3 days at Tamron. When they were done with it it took 3 business days to get back to me.

Depending on the shipping method you (the user/photographer) chooses, it's about 7 to 10 days door to door.

Yep. 8 days for me.

It depends I guess. I Priority mailed mine last Friday 6/20/14 from Texas. Tamron received it Monday morning 6/23/14 10:47 am and shipped it Thursday at 6/26/14. At 3:21 pm it was signed in at FedEx. It says delivery sometime Tuesday the July 1.

When I got the repair order it said they found trash in lens, rebuilt & repaired. I'm kind of wondering how trash could have gotten into my lens as I could see none before shipping it. It said nothing about the Firmware but I called and was told the Firmware was automatic on my lens along with the rebuild.

I shipped mine Fed-Ex Ground this afternoon. Should arrive next Wednesday. If they complete update/repairs by following Monday and ship Tuesday, I should receive by Friday. So 2 weeks with shipping, if all goes accordingly.

I'll let you know.

Don't forget about the upcoming holiday. Your repair may be closer to 3 weeks because of your shipping method, weekends and the holiday.

That's true. The holiday could set it back a bit further. It was about $25 for shipping ground (3 days) and I couldn't see doubling the cost for 2 day air.

I just had the firmware on my Tammy updated by the UK distributor (Intro2020) - it is no better than when it went in!

I am going to return my Tammy to Amazon UK for a refund. I will wait a month or two and then buy another copy and try again!

On Monday, I received notice that my lens was approved for warrantee adjustment of autofocus and cleaning of dust. Today, Wednesday, received a notice that the work is complete and a tracking number for delivery early next week. So all is going pretty well for having a holiday in the middle.
Thanks
Steve

That's good news, specially considering the work that was done.

I received my 150-600 today after firmware upgrade and cleaning. AI Servo seems to work like a charm on a 7D and it also focuses much faster in live view on my 6D (it was slow and inaccurate previously). I am much happier with it now.

Very bad news. FedEx shows delivery of my lens yesterday at 11:52 am, but no box or lens to be found. My wife and her caretaker (a younger lady), were there all day and keyed up to listen for a knock or the door bell, but heard nothing. FedEx is investigating, Tamron is starting a claim, and I'm waiting without my lens.

Very good news. Today, my long lost (1 week) 150-600 lens showed up, so I reviewed my security video recordings and found that an unidentified neighbor in a red t-shirt and riding a bicycle was kind enough to drop it off at my front door this morning about 9. Obviously it had been mis-delivered by FedEx.

I had all but given up and earlier today spoke with Brian, at Tamron Service. He reassured me that in about another week, if FedEx hadn't located it, they would ship me another lens. Won't need it now, but that was good to know.

Had about 30minutes for a quick test and there is an obvious improvement in AIServo on my 5DIII and my 7D. No birds in flight yet, but focus adjusted nicely as I followed tree branches from farther to closer.

Just picked up one as a present for my wife because she had been kind enough to let me get a 200-400 for myself (I know I got the better end of that deal). The tamron handles well and af seems more than adequate on both new (5diii) and older (1div & 60d) bodies. Servo tracking seems to work ok - though not to the standard of the 200-400 of course. Only slight issues are that the IS does not yield as stable a viewfinder image as I get with canon L lenses and the zoom ring is back-to-front (at least to me) and a little notchy in operation. All in all very good value for circa $1k with image quality comparable to 100-400 l (I don't have image masters skill with that lens!).

Let's see how it handles the rigors of Africa next month.
