While it is great that Tamron has developed a fix for their defect, I think it is second class for a consumer to have to pay shipping. Over the decades I've had a couple of laptops with defects analogous with the Tamron, and the manufacturer provided an express mail call tag and proper packaging. I'm still buying their products.
Great news.. hopefully this (drastically) improves the AI servo performance of this lens.. more user reports as lenses get updated would be appreciated!
So if I was to get on a list to order one now it should have the new firmware installed when the lens arrives in the dealers shop.
Great to know now to get inline for one.

I received some additional information on the firmware update yesterday. If the dealer received the lens after mid February it probably has/had the new firmware. Lenses received before that time should be sent in to have the firmware updated for general AF issues. If you have a Canon lens you can email Tamron service or call them and provide the serial number from the lens and they can tell you if the firmware needs to be updated.
All Nikon mount lenses have the new firmware, no update is needed.
I sent mine in yesterday. Hope it helps this lens on my 70d and if it does it will be $ well spent.
BTW, FedEx was about 2/3 the price to ship than UPS - only $19.
A friend of mine who owns the lens called Tamron and was told that the lens fix was a re-chip and it fixed various other problems. He was told that weather or not he was experiencing a problem it should be done.

Yea, I thought the same thing for a second...then decided that considering the price paid, I'd let it slide this time. And had I bought it from a local shop, I'm guessing they would have taken care of the shipping...but since I saved tax buying from B & H, I'm still ahead $$-wise at the end of the day.
I just filled out the Tamron form to send in with my lens. The 3-day turnaround and electronic form are pretty user-friendly, so they have that going for them I guess. I think I'm going to wait a week as I need it for a road course event next weekend. I've found that even with my 7D the lens is usable in AI Servo, but with a need to focus-bump. Hopefully this fix will alleviate that issue.
I wonder when new hardware lenses will be shipping with different revision code. Current code is something like A1 isn't it? I would expect then to see a revision A2 as the next shipping units from Tamron.

I don't buy the three day turnaround. My lens arrived there Tuesday 6/3/14 @ 2:14 pm and no word from Tamron by end of business on Friday.
Same here the lens arrived at 10 AM on Tuesday, no word from Tamron yet
I've had very fast turnaround service from them in the past, just hoping they're not too backed up servicing the 150-600s as I sent mine in to them as well. Also, it might take a little longer if you don't already have you're lens registered with them.
Good news - I was away for the weekend and the 150-600mm was sitting on my porch Sunday afternoon (I assume it was delivered late Friday). So I mailed it Monday, they got it Tuesday and I had it back on Friday(6/6) It looks like a new lens completely cleaned, shined, and sealed in clear plastic.
Can't tell from the paperwork that they put in the new firmware but suspect they did. I will call tomorrow to verify. It does say they fixed the AF problem which was AI Servo issues.
I went outside to take some shots and it worked fine, getting dark now so will try to find some BIF tomorrow.

Id be very interested in seeing how it performs, If this lens can match the 100-400L IQ wise Id be happy to buy it and use it on my 5DIII rather than buy an another crop camera.
That's both good and potentially troubling news.
It's great that Tamron's turnaround time was better-than-reasonable.
It's not so great that Tamron didn't have the sense of customer service to notify you that the lens was received, and more importantly that it was shipped back without a required signature or even a warning. While having a $1000+ product hanging out on an outside porch for a couple of days may be quite acceptable in both of our neighborhoods, I've also lived in communities where this is simply stupid. And preventable.
I look forward to hearing about the performance of the repaired lens.

For the most part is does from 200-400. Below 200 it is not as good, but really falls off after 500.
