Stream of red hot lava (2000 deg F) entered the cold Pacific blue ocean in a very windy morning in Hawaii. (We are witnessing the creation of new land as it happens.) As the violent waves crashed into the black lava rocks, steams rises from the chaotic rendezvous between hot and cold.
When have you been on Big Island? Two weeks ago it was a 17 miles hike to get to the lava. Not really fun when it's hot and sunny outside, and you have to walk across dark brown lava fields.

When my wife and I were there back in September, the hike was about nine miles. Totally worth it though. No lava was spilling in the ocean at that point, only thing I wish we were able to witness. Beautiful shot.
beautiful shot! one my must do if I ever go to Big Island.
a comment if you dont mind, but the composition feels a little off. the bright white steam on the left is over powering, pulling the viewers eyes away from the red lava.
i would crop it off
otherwise, love the bright color of the water and lava!
I took this image back in 2012. It was a 7-mile ardous hike in the dark: it was windy, cold, and rainy over a very hot, slippery, and extremely sharp volcano rocks. But it was all worth it. The sight was unforgettable.
