Does anyone have a foot on their 500 fluorite that is already machined with Swiss Arca grooves?

http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/LCF-18

Looks like the Kirk even has some padding, making it more comfortable to carry.

Just what I like!

I have a Kirk that came with my lens (I bought mine used)...it isn't the one with padding but I may upgrade to that one. The stock Nikon foot is so nice to hold with the padding but of course doesn't have the Arca Swiss grooves and requires an additional weight adding plate. For a short while I switched over to the Nikon foot because I was mostly handholding the lens and it was so much nicer to carry around via the foot. But lately I have been using a tripod at home setup by my feeders so I switched back to the Kirk one.

The first image was taken with the D5 camera and the 500mm f/4 lens. The second image was taken with D850 camera and the 500mm f/4 lens. The rabbit in the second image was snatched from foxes and still alive when that image was taken (but probably not for long).

Enjoying these images especially as I'm now a proud owner of one of these. I had my first go with it on Sunday and noticed how my sharpness improved over the day ending up with incredibly sharp images. Do you guys have any tips?
Do you leave sport VR on for action shots? I like to shoot with auto area AF, I know the issue with this is that you are hoping it finds the eye to do it's eye focus thing on the D850, but it's easier to do than stick some focus points on the eye of a fast moving creature.
Hope to post some shots soon.

Tim

I use Sport VR for everything, even perched birds because I can't stand how much the image jumps (resets) with Normal VR...Normal VR will maybe net you a slightly slower SS but I don't want to bother remembering to switch back and forth.

With the 300PF and the D850 I recently learned from someone on FM that using the Q or Qc modes can allow handholding at much lower SS...although Nikon claims to have fixed the VR issue on the 300PF, I still find that it is an issue in the troubling range of about 1/100 through 1/320 or so....using Qc allows me to easily handhold down to 1/60 or lower. With the 500FL and 200-500 I can handhold without going into Q or Qc down to 1/50 or so with a decent keeper rate...a 1/100 shot is down below...

Very excited about the lens, but will take some tuning in to it's length on hand holding.

Time to revive this thread, it seems. Here are a couple images taken yesterday with the D5, the 500mm f/4 E, and the latest 1.4x TC.
