Oh, there is...you just might not like the prices they're selling for.
Saw 4 go in the last few months ranging from $5K to $4500. Some
with considerable extras. I coveted a 500 for a long time and the new
release made scoring possible. I actually had 80-400G/150-600 Sport
AND the 200-500 on hand (FL well covered) but got a great deal that I
just couldn't pass up. Besides, there's something about 500 @ f4 that
separates itself from the f5.6 & f6.3 offerings...beyond the Supertele
blazing fast AF. Little more effort to handhold all day, results are worth it.
This is exactly that. I'm in the market for a 500mm/f4 as well and couldn't be happier seeing the prices where they are at! The other side of that is the 200-400/f4 and the 300mm/2.8 lenses are also dropping the VR1 for each can be had under $3k!

I've been eyeing the 500mm f4 too. Lol I like my sigma sport but it can't go to f4 at 500.. I've seen the 200-400 going for 2500-3k crazy business. I think i recall seeing one for 2200. older 300mm 2.8 are under 2k if you need the VR you pay up a little.
It's remarkable how used prices of tele-exotics have come down so much over the past few years, even as the price of their new equivalents has stayed the same or even gone higher.

I was altready wondering if it was just in Europe I ddi see this. It seems that by us the second hand market is saturated and do people have to drop their prices considerably compared to 2 years ago. I was expecting that the prices for 2nd hand big tele lenses would remain high, especially the G versions, with the release of the FL versions that are extremely $$ but did turn out not to be so.
Something is chaning in the world of photography.

Very very nice, Brian. I haven't touched my 500mm for a while.
Douglas
Thank you Douglas, i have been getting lucky this spring, usually these guys take off from the east which when they do they just pass by me down the runway and the fence surrounding the airport gets in my way but this spring i have caught a few take offs with them heading east instead so i get to catch them in the air and above the fence
