Dark and rainy motocross action today with the D810 and the 500mm.
Great shot! But is the ISO correct? Dark and rainy at ISO 200 at f4 would be maybe 1/200 sec, not 1/800.
For 1/800 sec it would need about ISO 1000 at f4. Did you use a flash?
that's actually correct exif...the sun shone through the clouds a little bit here and there, so I guess this wasn't so dark after all...and they'd also made a dry line by this time...there was some pretty funny shots of guys where you could barely tell what colour the bike was because of the mud.
Alas...I had dark and rainy fun at the Motocross track, but this shot might not be a great example of the dark or rainy
Wonderful Images, the lens looks beautiful, I may have to get myself one of those, such a lovely length to throw the background well and truly out, and keeps us away from nervous or dangerous wildlife.

Langley is indeed the East Coast F-22 base under the banner of the First Fighter Wing...so you'll see the FF tail coded jets flying out of there. The F-22's are stationed in:
JRB Hickam (Honolulu) - HH Tail Code
Elmendorf AFB (Anchorage) - AK Tail code
Tyndall AFB (Florida) - TY Tail Code
Langley Eustis (Virginia) - FF Tail Code
Nellis (Vegasssssssssssss) - OT Tail Code
Andrews (California) - ED Tail Code
I think that's all of the tails, but I could be wrong...Nellis I'm not 100% sure if they have another tail code flying from there or not since the OT tail is for the testing squadron I believe.
The only ones I haven't seen yet of those are ED and FF. I had planned on going to Anchorage to see the AK tail code this year since I figured that would be the only way to see them (I saw the HH tail codes at Hickam in 2014), but when I got to Abbotsford last year there they were in all their glory....Show more →
Weekend in GSMNP, we saw several bears in and around Cades Cove. This guy stayed around for several min. but got nervous and left as more cars stopped and the crowd grew.

Yeah, it's weird that there's essentially no used market right now. Given the Nikon price increases you would think there would be. Ah well.
Oh, there is...you just might not like the prices they're selling for.
Saw 4 go in the last few months ranging from $5K to $4500. Some
with considerable extras. I coveted a 500 for a long time and the new
release made scoring possible. I actually had 80-400G/150-600 Sport
AND the 200-500 on hand (FL well covered) but got a great deal that I
just couldn't pass up. Besides, there's something about 500 @ f4 that
separates itself from the f5.6 & f6.3 offerings...beyond the Supertele
blazing fast AF. Little more effort to handhold all day, results are worth it.
