if anyone is interested, I'm debating on selling my Mitakon #00001 that I bought from Steve Huff early this summer.
great lens but I don't use it much and thinking of downsizing my gear, my plan was to use this in Vegas last week but I didn't even bring the A7 at all.. hah!
already have CV 50 1.5 and a T-E-M 90mm 2.8 and MF cameras to satisfy my bokeh craving.
I have the speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 which I use on my Sony A6000. Amazing lens, sharp at wide open, high quality construction, smooth focus ring. Only problem is the chromatic aberration at wide open, but most lenses at that wide aperture have chromatic aberration anyway, you just need to remove it in LR or PS. Other than that, I love the lens. It can deliver outstanding portraits in low light condition. I got the silver version since I like its uniqueness! I found that it looks and feel really good on A6000, much better than my OM Zuiko, Minolta, or Pentax lenses due to their big adapters.
@Bubble: I bought it for $550 off an ebay seller, and yes, there is only one version of this lens. However, it comes in either black or silver color. Also I noticed that the CA is only a problem when I shot at outdoor with strong sunlight and wider than f2.8. The CA almost disappears when I shot indoor even at wider aperture than f2.8. It works smoothly on both of my A7r and A6k.
CA wouldn't be the problem since i'm going to use it for the A7s at night shot only. I assume $550 is the used price? or new? if new, still have the link to that seller?
I've only had an evening to play with the Dark Knight but I already feel that it will be a rewarding challenge to master. To attain any sort of sharpness at f/.95 will require a tripod unless your are a rock. As others have found, f/1.4 seems to be a nice compromise of depth of field and ease of focusing. My motivator in purchasing this lens was seeing the results at medium distance and I think I am going to really enjoy it for that. I will have to do some personal testing to see how it perform close-up. I'm eager to use it with some strobes to see how big of a factor flaring will play. The hood is definitely flimsy, just don't force it on too far, doesn't take much of a turn to hold it in place. Oh, and yes, vignetting is ever-present at wider apertures.
Here's a few shots from my first go with it (sorry I didn't record the F stops but assume 0.95-1.4)
Quick update. ZY got my lens back and are sending a replacement right away. I didnt like the way the lens fell apart but i really appreciate the efforts from Steve from ZY to fix customer problem.
They looked at the videos and immediately confirmed the problem cannot be fixed and they will arrange for a replacement.
Now waiting for a replacement.
If you want to buy this lens, please but it directly from ZY and you have a good return and warranty policy with them.
Again, this lens is top notch for its price range. Beats anything around in that price range and now with a A7s will be a deadly combo.
I am waiting for the A7s and will mostly get around December
Got my replacement today. Great sellers. One shouldnt worry about dealing with ZY optics and Steve. Brand spanking new lens was received at my door step.
i've had mine for 10 days
used it 4 times
NOT loose last night
2mm "PLAY" in the aperture and focus rings today
amazing optical quality
horribly made
i have the newer "dark knight" version
got from B&H
i'll call them on monday and send it back
won't get another
i'll miss it
i've always wanted a HYPER-PRIME, but this lens isn't worth the aggravation to me
by the way
even if B&H has another one lying around to replace mine.... it's of the VERY SAME BATCH and therefore will fall apart in the very same way
really disappointing after i waiting 3.5 months for mine

Now need to get that Sony body i am after
why do you think THIS one won't fall apart, too.... by the way?
that strange that another one has the same problem. My lens SN is 000519. I've been using it a lot and i mean a lot..with video shooting so rotating the iris/focus ring constantly and it still solid as a tank.
