I want to own at least one stupidly fast lens for the A7R, it's looking very much like it's going to be this one, especially after seeing this comparison with the much more expensive Hyperprime T/0.95, the fact that the Mikaton has an E mount is icing on the cake.
Improved coatings better hood can only be a good thing, unless the "pro" version commands a significant premium (feels more like a minor "mkII" update to me )
Didn't realise this lens was as expensive (relatively) as it is. I have the Cosina 55/1.2 and with other superb f1.2 options like the Revuenon (same lens as the Cosina), Porst etc. at much lower prices I'm wondering why everyone is so interested in this Mitakon ?
Hey Frogfish....I think it's the first lens that's this fast, with a native E- mount. Which means no adapter! It's a heavy lens, but because of the mount, the weight becomes ok to handle. I think the weight is similar to my Leica R 80, but with no adapter much smaller!!
It's pretty sharp wide open...comparable to most of the 50 1.2's I've used...including the Revuenon 55 I had earlier this year. I should have kept that lens!! The DOF is SO thin, especially at mfd...I plan to do some stop down work in a while to see how it looks.
As far as ergonomics...I really like it! Solid, feels good, and the focus ring is very smooth. The aperture ring is very tight, which is good, since it's a stepless design. There are white dots which signify each aperture, and so far they seem very accurate.
I'll need to compare it to my Leica Summilux R 50 to see which I like better...with nods going to the Lux...but we'll see...
I need to get out at night, too, to try it out...but that may take awhile since my wife is working this weekend...
Anyways, I'll post more pics from around the house and of the kids....

Nice examples Gregg. Where did you get your lens from if you don't mind?
Thanks

I was on vacation in Hawaii, and just happened to check Ebay(Have to do something while the kids aren't ready to go yet!!) saw the lens...and waited it out. He had a ridiculous Buy-it-Now price, with starting bid of $899. I waited til the last 2 min, bid $925, and got it for $899!! He just happened to be a camera store in Berkeley, CA. I got it when I returned!

I'm not sure, but some of those Mitakon shots in that review seem to have an unusually busy bokeh, while others look fine. In the photos of the dancers, the background almost looks like it's in motion. You have to look at the larger versions to see it. People sitting in the background are oddly blurred and sharp at the same time, almost as if the photographr applied excess clarity or something.

Phil...the "Dark Knight" version has a 67mm filter thread vs mine, the 1st version with 58mm. Supposedly, the new version has better coatings but the optical design is supposed to be the same. I really like the size of this version. Balances well on the A7. Curious to hear what other members say about theirs.

received my Mitakon 'classic' 00001 from Steve H last Friday, perfect timing since we were going to spend the weekend in Jasper.
when I arrived in Lake Louise, I realized that the only lens I brought for the A7 was the Mitakon.
I have no problem shooting with this lens from f0/.95 all the way to f/16!
thinking of downgrading the Nokton 50mm ASPH now since this will be my 50mm for the A7 now!
thanks Gregg, great shots too !
I'm really liking this lens for B&W portraits which is why I might sell the Nokton 50mm and get the smaller and cheaper Planar as my travel 50mm lens.
I will be doing some comparison shots between the Mitakon and Nokton ASPH when I'm back in town before making the decision.
Excuse my ignorance but can you tell me where I can order one?
Thanks
