I'll tell ya...the Merrill's aren't overly easy cameras to use, though they do have a nice simple and easy to use interface. Julian somehow makes it look like its impossible to take a bad picture with a Merrill because each and every image he post is just exceptional
Millsart, firstly thank you. I also agree with what you say about the camera and it definitely is a camera with querks.
Ps. I assure you i take plenty of bad pictures. The answer is to resist posting them
While I sometimes have issues with the Merrill's color and white balance, other times I feel like it just nails it. Not always technically "correct", but just in a way that seems to really suit a given shot.
3 shots from a car show, basically just converted to jpeg in SPP with no real tweaks, save for using the monochrome option on the one shot. I had my Sony A7 with me as well, and it also gave some great shots with plenty of detail and was the better tool overall with its flip out LCD, faster focus, high ISO which helped shooting interiors etc, but sometimes the old DP2m just produces files that end up being my favorite.
Just a "magic" combination of color, lens rendering and detail
@brendans.......Great images and really enjoyed reading your blog. Are your monochrome conversions in SPP or Lightroom? I had trouble coming up with a good workflow with the Merrill files. The monochrome conversion in SPP appears to smooth over the details and the image loses something.
