I recently came across this scene and the snake put up a good fight but I guess the outcome was inevitable. It was interesting to see how deftly the heron could maneuver the snakes head into his bill and then repeatedly clamp down on its skull to stun it. You can see that it is an effective strategy by the blood in the last shot. I think this is a water snake but if anyone can positively id the snake that would be great. Taken in Florida. Thanks for looking.
Mike,
This is a real wow! set.
All the images are excellent and work together to tell much of the story.
Two and three are the most dramatic to me because they really show the battle.

Excellent series Mike, way to get the action without clipping the main part, the head. I bet it was exciting during capture. Cool behavior shots for sure.
Super set Mike...I see the tongue of the snake tasting the air in the first...and it's not the smell of de-feet but de-bill....great series and so well documented

Wow. Really good. Banded water snake or sometimes called the Southern water snake (Nerodia fasciata). For me #2 is the favorite, the opposing body curves and life/death struggle is very good indeed, not sure if its a crop, but brilliant behavioral series. Thank you for posting it.
