p.3 #1 · Lesser Scaups on chilly waters........(5)

Exceptional set Karl, the first is my favourite. I love the background colour and the entire image palette. The low angle is awesome...I will be spending the next 2 months lying on ice like this also during our spring migration of swans and ducks so I can relate to the experience

I prefer the first 3 in general as I'm not a fan of the OOF ducks in the latter two. The line in the eye of the last is the membrane half closed I think as I have lots of shots with a similar thing and then subsequent ones without it.

Such a sweet combination of beautiful duck, ice, water and very nice bluish BG.
Super set, Karl. The first three are my favorites.

Way to go Karl! I know how good this set felt for you, you had it all, subjects, light, a great setup. I guess that's karma All are nicely focused and exposed shots from a nice low angle. Don't think that's gets you a free pass though

1 rocks, love buddy
2 umm, KW says that looks like snot on the bill, he doesn't like shots like that
3 my pick of the bunch, I really like this one. Of course I can still find a nit... I might like less room right to bring the ducks head further from center, my eye keeps thinking it's centered
4 I think this one would benefit from a higher angle to lessen the ghosts behind the subject or at least help them to not overlap the subject
5 yes the canvasback has an interesting marking but the membrane bisecting the pupil of the main subject is a big negative in my mind

Keeping you on your toes buddy

Tim

Those lessers are greaters!! I don't mean taxonomically, but I do mean from a quality perspective. Lovely work, and that low angle was well worth the reduction in your motile sperm count. The sky and water work well together, and put all the emphasis on your subject. #1 is my pick, followed by #4. Well done.

That is better to be greater than lesser A kind thanks Ken, mucho appreciated buddy. Glad you enjoyed the harmony of sky and water and had a few picks to pull out. The rest of the 'personal gear' will recover

Wonderful set, Karl. What a great low level shooting you got there. I am curious as the other as well; did your lens/gear submerge the water? Great work.

Thank you Tam. Thankfully we all stayed above water!

#1 is just fantastic, great comp.

Tim, it was a warm brrrrrrr Frozen on the stomach side and warming from above on the topsides Just enough to keep me going and the ducks were most entertaining for me.
Thanks a bunch on #1, my fav too!

Superb images, Karl!!! Excellent techs on these, and beautiful colors/bg. Yes, the low angle is to die for...I hope to find some good spots this year where I can do that kind of shooting. Excellent job on these!

Terrific set Karl,

No.1 is my pick here, I really like the background - sets of the bird a treat.

You are a brave man staying on the ice for 4.5 hours!

Paul.

You really "iced" the Lessers Karl!

I was looking for the duck's feet under water Karl because you were so low Karl. The low level really paid off.

You certainly have your camera / lens dialed in and your post-processing polished. I don't know how you could improve your pics.

Splendid set my friend!

Best,
Tom

Hello Tom Wish I could see under the water too Tom! I think the gear is close and this was good exercise for what I have learned over the years in PP workings. Room for improvement in perfecting my in-camera exposures
Thanks much and take good care buddy.......

I can easily see how Kirk enjoys the same at his pond but I don't think he ever freezes his you know whats off All I have to worry about are ants in my pants... literally.

For me there's nothing better than the eye level perspective for wading/floating birds and I'm glad you finally got to experience it.
The beautiful pastel blues and soft whites are a perfect canvas for the Lesser Scaup in 1-3... exposure, color, detail, and comps are all excellent Karl.
So glad for you and that sweet piece of glass already dialed in together,

Ewwww, ants in your panties Now that can be troubling to concentration!
Was good to see the sun and have some new subjects and an opportunity to shoot 'Pond Style' on ice
Get your gears in gear and shine on my friend.............waiting
