Harsha and I joined Conrad Tan and Mike Lentz this weekend. We searched and searched for the reluctant Hawk Owl, but we finally found it perching and flying to and fro.
This winter has been long and hard on everyone and even harder on wildlife. I have travelled throughout Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota over the last month only to find Turkeys frozen dead from the cold and starvation, deer trying to forage through the snow while eating tree branches and looking gaunt, dead Juvi Bald Eagles floating down the Mississippi, and fewer song birds. The winter has been long and hard.
We were very lucky to find the elusive Northern Hawk Owl.
Congrats Larry. I always love to see this owl posted. I've never seen any IF's of this species and you nailed him super duper. All are great, but I'd frame 1 and 2 for sure.
WOW Outstanding #2 is just off the chart My heart is racing just looking at the photo you guys must have been in heaven seeing this What a beautiful bird
