I headed out to Banff a few weeks ago for what turned out to be an extremely cold morning. This was partially due to the fact that I forgot my down jacket at home in my very tired state. I had a spare fleece in my trunk so it all worked out in the end. I also bumped into two fellow FM'ers from the US who were on a two week tour around the area. Super nice guys and it was great to meet them. Lucky for them and myself, it turned out to be one of the nicest sunrises I have ever seen at this location. My fingers were numb but I was super happy. The colors this cold morning were simply amazing.
Great shot. Small correction though, it is Vermilion, only 1 L not 2. This place is starting to haunt me. I've been there countless times and sunrise is always a bust for me.
Justin - yes, it is a good location but my luck is typically not so good with colorful sunrises here. As with any location, the key is to visit as often as possible to increase the odds. I am fortunate in that I can drive out for sunrise and then be back in Calgary before 10am.
Sunny & Scott - thanks! It is definitely one of my best landscapes ever....
treebeard - There was no EXIF as my camera doesn't record it properly. Here is the info:
