When a product sells for 1/4 of its apparent value, it's usually because its of less than expected value. Is this not the case, in most instances?

Usually. Of course you can buy the most expensive product and get a lot less than expected value also.

Agree. Being a first-adopter of anything has its risks. This just reaffirms that for me. Never understood the urgency in being the first to have something new.

What risk? I've got a lens that needs to go back for a repair. In the mean time I've got shots at 600mm that I'm very happy with. Could get hit by a bus tomorrow & never have known what it was like to own this lens. It's not like paying £10,000 for a 4k tv that will be £600 in 2 years. In the UK we get a 5 year warranty too, so pretty risk free really.
My experiences with this lens and the 5DIII mirror yours also, AI Servo and otherwise. Works fine.

Well, I'm no expert on AI Servo. However I do get a kick out of all the bashing on this post. It becomes humorous after awhile. I have the lens on my 5M3 and it focuses as well or better than my Canon 100-400 with a 1.4 extender. Easier to use and It's sharper too. I love this lens. I'm sorry you are all having problems. So you returned yours for FULL REFUND - best to just get on with your lives and get over it. Hope you have a great day.
Last Saturday , I went to 2 local stores - any open box returns -? None yet , but if you
want on that list too . I will add you .
BTW - I called B& H and Adorama - neither has any returns . Guess I will stick with local stores

The Tamron rep was in yesterday to talk to them specifically about the lens and the issues and have confirmed a few things - Firmware in the lens has been updated. The focus problems are accepted and was an issue with communication between focus points and the lens. Tamron have spoken to Canon and the issue is now fixed and all new lenses from now will have been corrected at manufacture or before dispatch to the retailers!
Has anyone seen this confirmed in writing from Tamron, or is it just hearsay

Today, I spoke with a Brian at Tamron USA Service Department. He said he was not aware of a firmware update, but said if I would send in my lens in they would check it out. He did say if I wanted to send my one of my cameras (7D or 5DIII) they would tune the lens to the camera, with usually about a 3 day turnaround.
I am considering sending it in with my 7D, but first want to carefully document my actions and the problems I'm seeing on the next sunny day when I'm off work.
Based on Brian's comments I am not so sure about a FW update.

And here I thought it was already supposed to be tuned to all Canon bodies. Isn't that what Canon-compatible is supposed to mean?
Sounds like a funny tune that Tamron is playing.
Funny thing is I had to send my 24-105L along with my 5D2 to Canon for "fine tuning" so it would focus right. You'd think them making both ends, they could at least get it right.
chez - Don't feel bad , I exchanged my 50 1.4 twice and sent to canon . Still AF sucked
at f 1.4 - 2 . They said to send in XTI and 50 1.4 - yeah right - then other lenses would
not work with body .
Since I bought it for low light and the DOF is so small , I end up using MFon a tripod . It
was not the XTI , it does suck on 7D also but a little easier with live view .
It could be lens / probably was me but for fireworks in Mexico , all I got was bad bokeh .
I left it there in my vacation house . It seemed to work OK in bright sunlight [ high desert ]

I hardly think every 24-105L lens needed fine tuning. I have yet to hear of a single Tamron 150-600 auto-focusing properly on any camera body other than the 70D, 5D3, or 1DX.

Hmmmmm, glad i have my tried and true Sigma 150-500 for my T3i.
You know it's funny that Sigma has been running the ads saying just that (tried and true).
Sort of like they already knew something more than a month ago?
