You know it's funny that Sigma has been running the ads saying just that (tried and true).
Sort of like they already knew something more than a month ago?

Usually. Of course you can buy the most expensive product and get a lot less than expected value also.
Ever heard of a Canon 1D Mk III?
Yes I have. Made tens of thousands with my three 1D3 bodies, shooting, sports, weddings, events and corporate gigs. The 1D3 was a game changer for me. Excellent IQ and ISO, for its day. Great file size, for the applications in which I used the bodies. Amazing AF, for its time. A wonderful all arounder. Hated selling, however, newer Canon bodies are simply better. Wonderful for its time.
I'm guessing Tamron stopped production to see what's up here and what they can do about it. Certainly they could have shelves full of this lens by now if they wanted to.
That they're not saying anything publicly at this point doesn't shock me at all. From a corporate perspective it is not helpful to admit to a problem you are clueless about. I know it seems counterintuitive to individuals and it seems like it would be nice for them to say "We know there's something wrong and we're working on it...." that is NOT how every large company I have ever been associated with operates. Generally they feel that such a public admission will cost them more in future business than just quietly fixing the problem and moving on.
One Tamron tech rep I know has been sending a steady supply of reports up the ladder since mid-February. Tamron is well aware of what's going on. All they say is that IF they find anything, they'll make it right with everyone that owns this lens. I believe them, so any of you that have not returned the lens can expect some type of update.
As for me, I have a 1D4 and did experience the AI Servo problem. Its a shame because I loved this lens when it focused right. I sold my copy on eBay for a small profit with full disclosure. The buyer has a 5D3, does not shoot BIF, and he had to have it. All is well.....
When Tamron fixes the issue, I will buy it again. In the meantime, I will "make do" with my 400 5.6 plus 1.4 III.
As of today, March 27, B&H is shipping the lens. I have no idea if these are from a new Tamron shipment and/or if they are identical to the initial shipments.
So far on this thread I count eleven (11) lenses returned, One (1) order canceled and one (1) lens sold for a profit. I wonder how many are keeping their lenses cause they like it or how many ordered this lens on this forum altogether? I kept mine but hope for a fix for the Ai Servo problem. I'm lovin' mine.
I am disappointed to hear of these issues. Was considering the Tamron for airshows this summer, but since I am shooting with a 7d, that is out of the question.

Does this lens have the AI Servo issue when used with the 5DmkIII?
NOOOOO
for BIF AI servo on both of my cameras 5D3 & EOS 1 DX that lens did NOT focus
I have maybe 2 keepers out of 1000x test shots with both cameras. If it had worked like promised I would have kept the lens.
That lens was only good for none moving sujects.
I have yet to see a 6-8 sequence BIF AI servo posted with either cameras mentioned above.
I returned mine after 3 weeks exchanged it for EF400 f5.6L USM. 7D issues. I wanted the lens for motorsports and I had problems tracking cars on the highway with it so it went back.
