I had the same problem Dale. I contacted a few of my local camera shops when the D4s was announced for pre-order and they all told me the same thing...they didn't know when they would get any in stock as they didn't have a high demand for them. So I went and pre-ordered mine through Amazon. I've ordered many a body and lens from Amazon and have always had great experiences. Nice thing is that I didn't have to pay any local sales tax and I used my Amazon credit card so I got 3 points for every dollar I spent. I just pay my bill off when I get it so I don't have to worry about any interest. I was lucky and got mine in the second batch that Amazon received.

Are you processing the D4S NEF files in Dxo Pro Optics 9? I cannot get DxO to recognize D4S NEF files (just like LR5).

I emailed Dxo last night in regards to Pro Optics 9 and when they will support the D4s NEF's. They emailed me back and just stated that it's currently not supported and they didn't have any information when it would be supported. They also told me to just keep checking their website for supported equipment for future updates

I've just done a first test with the high ISO of the D4s, from H1 to H4.
Here are the results :

NEF file processed in NX2 with Sharpness=0, Luminance Noise Reduction=0% and Chrominance Noise Reduction=100% (Better Quality 2013).

D4s, 180/2.8 AI-S, 1/60", f/4, @H1 (51,200 ISO).

That is pretty incredible. I realize the light is good, but those look amazingly clean at those ISO's, and entirely usable around 50% size, which is pretty huge still. The 25,600 and 51,200 really stands out in other tests I've seen as well. I'd be curious to see a test under dim lighting.

Thanks. They look similar up until 25,600 or so. D4S is definitely a little better.

What I find most exciting is all the overwhelmingly positive comments regarding the AF.

I shot D3 for many years. Bough D4 and went to African safari with both. I didn't see much, if any difference in IQ. So I sold the D4 and now am happy with D3 and D800e. Never touched video! And never need ISO above 2000.

Just got D4S and I used it on a baseball game, During the fourth inning I was shooting the batter and after he hit the ball for a triple, I looked at the sequence and noticed something strange. The Bat was bent. After the inning I let the third base coach look at the image and his mouth dropped. He went over and reviewed the bat and shook his head. The bat was fine. It picked up the recoil of of the aluminum bat.

I've had one issue with my D4S and another photographer that I know has had the same problem. When you review vertical images with auto rotate on they appear soft even if they're sharp. With the auto rotate off the images appear sharp. I'm sure it will be an easy firmware fix but it does appear to be an issue.
