p.7 #1 · Tamron 150 600 is it a Keeper??

Tried my friends Tammy 150-600 on my 1Dx with a Kenko C-AF 1.4 tele and as soon as i mounted it on my 1Dx even without turning it on, i got the error message "cannot communicate with the lens try cleaning the contacts". I've seen and had this error message before, but never before even turning the camera on. I realize that "off" doesn't actually mean totally off, but once again never had this without even turning the switch to the on position. Thought this would be a good travel lens if it took a tele rather than lugging around my 600 or my 100-400 etc, but i guess not.

It's been established that Tamron recommends not using a TC on this lens. Although some, including myself, have used it with a TC with limited success, I wouldn't judge this lens based on how it performs when being used in a manner that is not recommended.

+1

Even WITHOUT a TC this thing already has MORE reach than the Canon 100-400mm WITH a TC.

I don't know what you are puzzled about. Most examples posted on other boards are not sequential shots in AI Servo that show AF is tracking a moving subject.

If you had been reading all the posts, you would know the specific problem people are reporting and you would know that it depends on the body you are using.

Why is it that some self appointed experts find it necessary to respond in such an unpleasant manner to posters who may or may not have failed to notice something in earlier posts.

Actually I had read all the preceding posts. I have been following this and other related threads, here and on other boards, for quite a while.

I only asked ... thank you for your delightful reply.

My, my, which shoulder do you have a chip on? I guess if you read all the preceding posts, you did not understand them. I don't find your reply to be the least big pleasant and guess you are a self-appointed expert on missing the point.

For your enlightenment, here are ten postings all made before your puzzling question and all mentioning problems with AF when using a 7D. So once again, without being rude, I will ask what you are puzzled about if you had read all the preceding posts

I am very puzzled. I have seen numerous examples posted on other boards which were taken with the 7D, and nobody seems to have mentioned problems.

So far we have AIServo issues I think reported on the 7D and 1D4 (by Tony).

Being a 7D owner myself, and having the 'issue' it's reassuring to hear other 7D owners are reporting the same issue. A 6D owner says it doesn't happen on his, but it does on his 7D. Maybe he's a pro-photographer on his 6D, but can't shoot a barn door once he has the 7 in his hand...

Thanks!. Even the expanded points on my 7d does NOT work. Focus works only when it hits the center point. I reviewed my images and focus only work when it hits the center point.

It appears that, inexplicably, Tamron tested it only on the newest Canon bodies. Until Tamron fixes it (if they fix it), my guess is all of the bodies that were introduced at the time of the 7D or older will not work.

Hi folks,
After years of lurking this is my first FM post. Since Jan 17th, I have been testing this lens on BIF. Living near L&D 14 on the Mississippi river I have spent many hours shooting Eagles. Please take a look at the my results over the last few weeks. http://jjbird.smugmug.com/Photography/Tamron-150600-Lens/i-GKtJqV8

I really like this lens and find it to as sharp or better than my tried and true Canon 100-400L.
My copy does have a issue when used with my 7D in the Ai-Servo mode, it does not keep focus, as a work around I must keep bumping the focus button

Hi folks,
Just posted a series of 8 shots with my Canon 6D in Aiservo with no pumping of the shudder button. (Images 49 thru 56) I have taken many sharp sequences with my 6D and will be doing it again today a great Eagle cold and clear. As I stated above I do have to constantly pump my shudder button on my 7D body and I hope this gets resolved by Tamron. Image 57-58-59 are a quick edit of three of the images from the sequence. This by far is not my best series but I think it will show

Keep on shooting Jay, your images are great. Gave me a new appreciation for Eagles!

Jay, I'd suggest you're having damn good success with the 150-600, those are great BIF images, fantastic shooting, congrats!

One question, are you hand-holding or using a tripod/monopod as support?

Thanks, cool images...

Jay does a great job on the Eagles and has taught many in our camera club the art of shooting Bald Eagles....I am still learning but I get a few good ones once in a while....the lens appears to be a great buy for the money from the people I have talked to

Just for you. I doubt you can get a sharper image with the 100-400 plus 1.4x TC.

Although I shoot with the 7D, I don't shoot a lot of BIF. I like the lens for what it does and the images it gives me pleases me. Tat's all that counts in the end when you don't make a living at it.. I know there's better photographers here but here's a few that I've gotten with the lens .
