Upon my shopping for a 28mm WA for A7R, i encountered an alternative for C/Y 28mm f/2 - Rollie 28mm f/2. I have no knowledge of this lens and little can be found on web. Can someone has experience of it kindly share your evaluation of this Rollie. Thanks and Merry Xmas.

Is it a MF lens or 35mm? I have had a Rolleinar MC 28 2.8, and still have the 135 2.5, both for 35mm and they have been some of the sharpest lenses I have ever owned -especially the 135.

Not familiar with the 28 2.0..

Be careful. Some of the Rolleis (e before i) have three-bladed apertures. If you plan on stopping down, and like nice boke circles, definitely make sure this isn't the case first.

Have you considered a (used) Zeiss 28mm f/2.0 Distagon instead?

The SMC Pentax 28/2 is reputed to be very similar to "Hollywood". I call mine "Vancouver", i.e. Hollywood north.

I've attached optical schematic diagrams for both.

I didn't know there was a Rollei 28/2. I compared a Rollei 35/2.8 HFT QBM with a Contax Distagon 35/2.8 T* C/Y, and the Contax had much better IQ. Of course, that was only a comparison of single 'copies' of each lens. Also, I thouhgt the QBM adapter was a bit fussy and complex in comparison with the C/Y adapter. I've stayed away from the Rollei Alts since then.

Yeah, it exists and it's the same as the Hollywood. http://www.taunusreiter.de/Cameras/Rollei_QBM_Zeiss_dt.html
It seems to have 6 aperture blades (unlike the 85/1.4 and 35/1.4 which have only 3). http://www.flickr.com/photos/eddie104/sets/72157623532722495/

Thnx for the advise. I am pretty sure the 28mm is not one of those.

I suppose you mean the ZF / ZE. Actually I did. The only reason I turned down the idea was because of it's weight, which is 100g heavier than the C/Y.

Thank you very much for the good info.

I am aware of Pentax produced "Hollywood" under their brand. Unfortunately, I couldn't find one so far and I was told if there is one in the market the price will be very similar now. The lack of reputable adapter is another factor that bother me. Having said that this Rollie seems to produced better micro contrast and sharpness than the C/Y.

Interesting. On that page, the 135 2.8 looks different than my copy. I wonder if there is variation in finishes between copies..for whatever reason.

Have you also considered the Olympus Zuiko? When I owned both I did a sharpness comparison here.
